When former Santa Rosa Fire Captain AJ Armanini announced his transition from public service into the private tech sector, it raised eyebrows for all the right reasons.
After over a decade serving on the front lines of wildfire response and emergency management in Sonoma County, Armanini has joined Advanced Security Systems, a Northern California-based electronic security company, as its new Security Consultant Manager. The move reflects a broader shift happening in tech-adjacent industries: experienced professionals from government, safety, and public service are stepping into leadership roles to help reshape how technology protects homes, businesses, and entire communities.

Tech With a Pulse for Public Safety
Advanced Security Systems, a regional leader in alarm monitoring, surveillance systems, and emergency alert solutions, sees Armanini’s hire as part of a growing trend—one where real-world emergency expertise strengthens the design and implementation of security technology. With California’s fire seasons becoming longer and more unpredictable, companies are being asked to do more than install devices—they’re expected to offer peace of mind.
“Technology isn’t just about gadgets. It’s about strategy, response time, and foresight,” Armanini said. “After spending 10 years running toward the flames, I’m ready to help Sonoma County prepare before a crisis hits.”
Bridging Two Worlds
In his new role, Armanini works directly with residents and businesses to design customized security and life-safety systems. While the tech includes AI-powered surveillance, mobile-connected fire alarms, and smart medical alerts, Armanini’s human-centered approach is what sets him apart. He draws on years of responding to 911 calls to identify vulnerabilities others might miss.
“Technology on its own can’t make people feel safe,” he explained. “It has to be matched with trust, clarity, and a local presence. That’s why I joined a company like Advanced Security Systems—it’s family-owned, values-driven, and deeply rooted in the communities it serves.”
Not Just Security—Resilience
Armanini’s career move speaks to a growing philosophy in the tech sector: resilience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a blueprint. Whether it’s preparing for wildfires, break-ins, or medical emergencies, the best defense starts with education, planning, and infrastructure.
And while this transition may seem like a pivot, for Armanini, it’s a continuation.

“Public service has always been my calling,” he said. “Now I’m just answering that call a little earlier—before someone has to dial 911.”
