Italian Startup Launches Innovative USB-C Musical Instrument Accessory
Artinoise, an Italian startup, has unveiled Zefiro, a groundbreaking USB-C accessory that transforms mobile devices into musical instruments. The compact device, resembling a flash drive or vape, allows users to create music simply by blowing into it, requiring minimal skill.
The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise over $5,300 for production. Early backers can preorder Zefiro for €22, with the retail price set at €42. Shipping is expected to commence in February 2025. A Pro version, featuring an accelerometer for enhanced performance, is available for €39.
Zefiro is a simplified iteration of Artinoise’s Re.corder, retaining lip and air pressure sensors while omitting buttons. The device converts breath power into sounds via a mobile app, simulating various instruments. Compatible with both iOS and Android, the app allows users to customize on-screen buttons and includes features such as optional background tracks, recording, and sharing capabilities.
Functioning as a MIDI wind controller, Zefiro is positioned as a more affordable alternative to competitors like the Hornberg MIDI Breath Station and Tecontrol’s USB solution. The device can connect to desktops and laptops, compatible with any MIDI standard music software.
Artinoise is also offering a “headset holder” accessory, enabling hands-free use and allowing musicians to play Zefiro simultaneously with other instruments.
As the music technology landscape continues to evolve, Zefiro represents a novel approach to accessible and portable music creation, potentially opening new avenues for both amateur and professional musicians alike.
