YouTube Tests AI-Powered Song Restyling Feature for Shorts
YouTube is rolling out an experimental AI feature that allows select creators to “restyle” licensed songs for their Shorts content. The new tool, dubbed Dream Track, enables users to modify elements of a song such as mood or genre using text prompts, generating a unique 30-second soundtrack.
The feature is currently available to a limited group of creators who can access the AI-powered tool through the YouTube Shorts creation interface. Users can choose an eligible song and describe their desired modifications, after which the AI generates a customized soundtrack for their Short.
To maintain transparency and credit original artists, restyled tracks will include clear attribution to the original song and indicate AI involvement in the creation process.
The Dream Track experiment incorporates AI-generated voices of several high-profile artists, including Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. However, YouTube has not disclosed the specific songs available for restyling or the music labels participating in the trial.
A recent report from the Financial Times suggested that YouTube has been in discussions with major music labels to train AI models, potentially laying the groundwork for this new feature.
As of now, YouTube has not provided additional information regarding the feature’s potential expansion or a comprehensive list of participating songs and labels. The Verge has reached out to YouTube for further details but has not yet received a response.
This innovative approach to content creation could potentially reshape how creators interact with licensed music on the platform, offering new possibilities for personalization and creativity in short-form video content.
