Series, a new AI-powered social network aimed at revolutionizing professional connections, has launched with $3.1 million in pre-seed funding. Founded by Yale students Sean Hargrow and Nathaneo Johnson, the platform seeks to address the shortcomings of traditional social media in professional networking.
Unlike platforms such as LinkedIn and Instagram, which often prioritize vanity metrics, Series focuses on fostering genuine connections. The founders aim to combat issues like FOMO and self-doubt that users frequently experience on conventional social networks.
The innovative platform operates through an “AI Friend” that interacts with users via iMessage or SMS. This AI technology matches users with potential connections, including cofounders, investors, or mentors. A double opt-in system facilitates connections in group chats, simulating warm introductions through artificial intelligence.
Series is part of a growing trend of AI disrupting consumer technology, with investors showing keen interest in AI applications for social networking. While the initial focus is on college students, there are plans to expand beyond student entrepreneurs.
The platform’s monetization strategy includes premium features for enterprise users, with different paid tiers offering additional AI agents and customization options. Pricing plans will cater to business owners with specific networking needs.
The $3.1 million pre-seed round was led by Anne Lee Skates, with participation from notable investors including Pear VC and Reddit CEO Steve Huffman.
