Last night, OpenAI’s ChatGPT was down due to a major bug that revealed users’ chat histories and phone numbers. The glitch made the private conversations of thousands of users visible to anyone who accessed the platform. In addition, another bug may have also compromised user emails as well.
OpenAI has since released an official statement apologizing for this breach in security and assuring their customers that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure their data is kept secure going forward. They have temporarily disabled access to ChatGPT while they investigate what caused the bugs and how much information was exposed during this incident.
The company is encouraging its customers whose accounts were affected by these issues to reset their passwords immediately as a precautionary measure against any potential malicious activity on their accounts or devices linked with it such as phones or computers used for logging into ChatGPT. Furthermore, if you think your email address might have been leaked, then consider changing your password there too just in case someone else got hold of it somehow.
OpenAI has promised full transparency throughout this process so that everyone can be sure no further damage will occur from these bugs; however, until everything is resolved we must remain vigilant when using online services like ChatGPT.
