Twitter, the popular social media platform, has laid off “dozens” of employees on Saturday as part of its cost-cutting measures. According to a report from The Information, at least 50 workers have been affected by these job cuts including engineers who are responsible for keeping Twitter’s systems running.
The layoffs come as Elon Musk continues his efforts to reduce costs and improve efficiency across the company to maximize profits. This is not the first time that Twitter has had to let go of staff members; back in October 2019, they announced a round of redundancies, which saw around 350 people lose their jobs worldwide.
It is unclear how many more job losses will be necessary before Musk feels he can achieve his desired level of profitability but it appears that this latest round may only be the beginning. Many analysts believe that further reductions could still occur over the coming months if conditions do not improve significantly or quickly enough for Mr. Musk’s liking.
While it is always unfortunate when people lose their jobs due to circumstances beyond their control, one must hope that those affected by this latest wave will find new opportunities soon and continue with successful careers elsewhere.
