TwinMind Launches AI Assistant with Focus on Memory and Personalization
A new startup, TwinMind, founded by former Google X employees, has entered the competitive AI assistant market with a unique approach focused on memory and personalized understanding. The company, which has raised over $2.5 million and is valued at $30 million, aims to create an AI assistant that functions similarly to Jarvis from Marvel, constantly learning from user interactions.
TwinMind’s AI assistant operates on smartphones, continuously listening and learning from user interactions. It transcribes audio to text, storing information in a memory bank for future reference. Users can interact with the app to review their day or ask questions, utilizing the stored information for context.
The startup enters a market dominated by established players like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. However, TwinMind’s founders believe their focus on memory and personalized understanding sets them apart from competitors.
TwinMind offers a web browser extension to capture online activity and integrates with calendars and Gmail for drafting emails. The app processes most data locally, connecting to the cloud for advanced queries. A free version is available, with a premium tier offering enhanced language models.
Addressing privacy concerns, TwinMind only transcribes audio, similar to Siri or Alexa. The company faced a significant technical challenge in ensuring the app ran efficiently without draining the phone battery.
The idea for TwinMind originated from a project at Google X and evolved through iterations, including a name change from ThirdEar to TwinMind. The founders previously worked on a hearing wearable project at Google X.
TwinMind is currently seeking additional funding to enhance its features and improve integration between devices. The app is launching on Product Hunt, initially available for iPhone and Chrome, with plans for Android and Mac versions in the future.
As the AI assistant market continues to evolve, TwinMind envisions a future where personalized AI companions become a primary means of accessing information, potentially reshaping how users interact with technology in their daily lives.
