Rancho Cucamonga High School Mourns Second Student Death in Two Weeks
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – The Los Osos High School community is grappling with the loss of another student, less than two weeks after the tragic death of its dance captain and cheerleader.
Dr. Mathew Holton, Superintendent of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, confirmed the news on Thursday. In a statement, Holton expressed, “We can’t begin to express the depth of our grief over the heartbreaking loss of another student from Los Osos High School.”
While details about the student’s identity and circumstances of death remain undisclosed, freelance news service KNN reported a fatality on the 210 Freeway near Haven Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga around 1:30 a.m. This location is the same site where 17-year-old Emily Gold was found dead on September 13.
Gold’s death had shocked the community, coming just months after her appearance with her dance team on “America’s Got Talent.” KNN, citing California Highway Patrol dispatch, reported that a teenager had possibly jumped from the overpass in the most recent incident. However, officials have not confirmed any connection between Thursday’s fatality and Gold’s death.
These tragic events coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month. The community is reminded that a 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline is available by dialing 988 for those in need of support.
As the Los Osos High School community mourns, Superintendent Holton emphasized unity, stating, “We stand united in supporting our community through this difficult time.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Gold’s family with funeral expenses.
