Women in Thailand are paying homage to a 4-foot tall, anatomically accurate golden vagina sculpture. According to locals, the statue is prayed to for luck, fertility, and romance. A Buddhist nun expressed her thoughts on the matter: “I believe that we should pay respect to the genitals because they represent the origin of life and abundance in this world”.
The gold sculpture has been around since 2017 when it was erected at a temple outside Bangkok as part of an art project by artist Mattie Brice. The artwork is meant as an expression of female empowerment which many people have taken up with enthusiasm – both men and women alike flock there daily for blessings from its divine power.
The idea behind this unusual form of worship may be strange but it certainly appears effective; many people have reported seeing positive changes in their lives after praying at this unique shrine! Whether or not you choose to visit yourself, one thing’s certain – Thai culture has found yet another way to celebrate femininity through art that will surely stand out among other cultural practices around the world!
