Former Annapurna Interactive Team Takes Helm of Private Division
In a significant shift within the indie game publishing landscape, former employees of Annapurna Interactive have formed a new company to manage Take-Two Interactive’s Private Division portfolio. This development comes after Take-Two’s sale of Private Division to Haveli Investments, a Texas-based private equity firm, last year.
Annapurna Interactive, renowned for publishing critically acclaimed indie titles such as “Stray,” experienced a mass exodus of staff in the previous year. The departures followed unsuccessful negotiations to establish Annapurna Interactive as an independent entity, raising concerns about the future of its game portfolio.
The newly formed company, yet to be named, represents a partnership between Annapurna’s former team and Haveli Investments. This collaboration aims to oversee both existing and upcoming titles from the Private Division’s catalog.
However, the transition may come at a cost for current Private Division employees. Reports suggest potential layoffs, though specific details remain undisclosed at this time.
Despite the organizational changes, gaming enthusiasts can look forward to highly anticipated titles under the new management. These include “Tales of the Shire,” a game blending elements of “Lord of the Rings” and “Animal Crossing,” as well as Game Freak’s “Project Bloom.”
As the indie gaming sector continues to evolve, this restructuring marks a significant moment in the industry, potentially reshaping the landscape of independent game publishing and development.
