Spotify Enhances User Experience with Google’s Gemini AI Integration
Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, has taken a significant step forward in user interaction by integrating with Google’s Gemini Extensions. This new feature, powered by generative AI, allows users to search and play music using natural language requests through an AI assistant.
The integration, first spotted in the Google app’s code in June, is now available on compatible Android devices. As reported by 9to5Google, users can search for music by song titles, artist names, album names, playlist names, or even specific activities, enhancing the overall music discovery experience.
While this new feature offers exciting possibilities, it does come with some limitations. Currently, Gemini cannot create playlists or radio stations on Spotify. Users with multiple linked music services must specify which one to use, with the assistant defaulting to the last used service if not specified.
To access this feature, users need to link their Spotify and Google accounts and enable Gemini Apps Activity. It’s worth noting that AI queries are stored for up to 72 hours.
Spotify is the second non-Google app to support Gemini, following WhatsApp. However, the extension is not yet available in Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or on iOS devices. At present, the feature is only functional when Gemini’s language is set to English.
This integration marks a significant advancement in how users interact with music streaming services, potentially setting a new standard for voice-controlled music playback and discovery.
