Samsung has announced its latest innovation in gaming technology at gamescom, introducing a new lineup of Odyssey gaming monitors that feature groundbreaking glasses-free 3D capabilities. The global tech giant revealed that these cutting-edge displays will be available for release “within this year.”
The new Odyssey 3D monitors, first teased at CES earlier this year, utilize advanced eye-tracking technology to convert standard 2D visuals into immersive 3D experiences. Users will have the flexibility to switch between 2D and 3D modes, catering to various gaming preferences and scenarios.
Available in 27-inch and 37-inch sizes, the Odyssey 3D boasts impressive specifications. The 4K QLED panel offers a 165Hz refresh rate and a lightning-fast 1-millisecond response time. The monitor also supports AMD FreeSync technology for smooth gameplay. Connectivity options include a single DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports, while the stand allows for tilting and height adjustments.
The glasses-free 3D technology employed in these monitors combines a lenticular lens with a built-in eye-tracking camera. This system continuously adjusts depth perception through view mapping, ensuring an optimal 3D experience. Similar technology has been used by Acer in their SpatialLabs products, although the Odyssey 3D is currently designed for single-viewer use.
