Matthew Read, a 19-year-old hiker from Montana, has been rescued alive after being reported missing in Glacier National Park on Friday. On Monday afternoon he was hoisted to safety by park officials and is now said to be stable.
The search for Matthew began on Saturday morning when his family contacted the authorities after not hearing from him since Friday evening. A massive operation ensued involving over 100 people, including ground crews and helicopters searching for any sign of life in the vast expanse of Glacier National Park.
Fortunately, their efforts were rewarded when they located Matthew at around 4 pm local time on Monday afternoon – three days after his disappearance – safe but exhausted following an arduous journey through challenging terrain with no food or water supply available to him during that period. He was then taken back down into the valley where he received medical attention before being reunited with his relieved family members who had been anxiously awaiting news about their son’s fate throughout this ordeal.
Park officials have praised everyone involved in this successful rescue mission, which highlights both the importance of having adequate supplies while hiking as well as staying informed about your whereabouts so that help can be sought if needed at all times whilst out exploring nature’s wonders!
