NASA’s simulated Mars habitat is a facility designed to monitor how humans handle living on the Red Planet for an entire year. To make this experience as realistic as possible, the habitat includes all of the necessities necessary for survival in such extreme conditions. In addition to food, water, and oxygen, it also has some unexpected items like a PS3 and Settlers of Catan – two popular board games that will help break up any monotony during their stay.
The volunteers who are taking part in this experiment have already been chosen from thousands of applicants around the world; they must be willing to put themselves through an intense physical and psychological test by spending 12 months inside this artificial environment without leaving its confines once during that period. While it may seem like a daunting task at first glance, having access to these recreational activities should provide them with enough entertainment so they don’t become too bored or homesick while living on Mars (even if only virtually). This could potentially give scientists valuable insight into how people would fare when attempting long-term space exploration missions in real-life scenarios down the line.
