Microsoft Expands Free Access to Advanced AI Features in Copilot
Microsoft has announced a significant expansion of its AI offerings, making the OpenAI o1 reasoning model and voice capabilities freely available to all Copilot users. This move removes previous limitations on the Think Deeper and Voice features, allowing for unlimited use across the platform.
The tech giant’s decision to broaden access to these advanced features aligns with its strategy to rapidly expand the reach of its AI technology. Users can now engage in extended conversations with Microsoft’s AI assistant without restrictions, leveraging both the Think Deeper functionality and Copilot Voice.
While the company aims to provide uninterrupted service, it has noted that users may experience delays or interruptions during periods of high demand or in response to security concerns.
This development comes two years after Copilot’s initial launch within Bing. Since then, Microsoft has continuously evolved its AI offerings, recently revamping the Copilot Pro subscription and integrating Office AI features into Microsoft 365.
Despite the expansion of free features, Microsoft continues to offer its Copilot Pro subscription at $20 per month. Subscribers benefit from preferred access to the latest models during peak usage times, early access to experimental AI features, and enhanced functionality within Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
This move by Microsoft represents a significant step in democratizing access to advanced AI capabilities, potentially reshaping the landscape of AI-assisted productivity tools.
