Microsoft Enhances Copilot AI with New “Actions” Feature
Microsoft has announced a significant upgrade to its Copilot AI assistant, introducing a new feature called “Actions” that enables users to perform online tasks using simple chat prompts. This enhancement allows Copilot to execute various activities in the background, freeing users to focus on other priorities.
The Actions feature empowers Copilot to handle a range of tasks, including booking restaurant reservations, purchasing event tickets, and ordering items for shipping. Microsoft has partnered with several prominent travel and vacation services for the initial rollout, including Booking.com, Expedia, Kayak, Tripadvisor, Skyscanner, Viater, Vrbo, and Priceline. Additionally, OpenTable has been integrated for meal reservations, while 1-800-Flowers.com will facilitate floral arrangements.
Copilot’s capabilities extend beyond basic bookings, with the AI assistant able to assist in planning trips and arranging transportation after events, suggesting potential support for ride-sharing services in the future.
The Actions feature is part of a broader suite of personalization tools being introduced to Copilot. Other new features include AI-generated podcasts from online content and a tool for finding product deals. Microsoft has also enhanced Copilot’s ability to interact with and respond to visual input from a user’s camera.
This development comes as other tech giants are working on similar AI solutions. Amazon’s Nova Act, OpenAI’s Operator, Google’s Project Mariner, and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet are all in various stages of development or early access. However, Microsoft’s rollout of Copilot’s Actions feature positions it as one of the first AI services of its kind available to the general public.
Microsoft has begun the immediate rollout of the Actions feature, with plans for broader availability in the coming weeks and months. The rollout schedule will vary based on platform, market, and language support. This early release offers a unique opportunity to assess the practicality and reliability of AI partner tools in real-world applications.
As AI assistants continue to evolve, Copilot’s new Actions feature represents a significant step forward in making AI-powered task completion more accessible and integrated into daily life.
