Digital infrastructure quietly powers nearly every aspect of modern life—cloud computing, artificial intelligence, streaming media, global commerce—yet remains

Digital infrastructure quietly powers nearly every aspect of modern life—cloud computing, artificial intelligence, streaming media, global commerce—yet remains largely invisible to the people who depend on it daily. As demand for digital services accelerates, the industry faces a critical challenge: a growing talent gap that threatens its ability to scale sustainably.

Ana Franco is working to change that. Through nonprofit advocacy, academic outreach, and her children’s STEM book The Great Data Center Adventure, Franco is helping demystify data centers and digital infrastructure while inspiring curiosity in students at every stage of learning. Her work bridges industry, education, and community—creating pathways for the next generation of engineers, technologists, and sustainability leaders.

Franco’s efforts extend beyond awareness. By partnering with universities, engaging with industry organizations, and developing educational content that makes complex systems approachable, she is addressing the workforce challenge at its root. Rather than waiting until students reach the job market, her approach focuses on early exposure—planting the seeds of interest long before career decisions are made.

In this conversation, TechCulture sits down with Ana Franco to explore her journey into digital infrastructure, the inspiration behind her book, and her vision for how education and advocacy can shape the future of the industry.

Ana, thank you for joining us. Your work spans advocacy, education, and now authorship. What first drew you into the world of data centers and digital infrastructure?

Thank you for having me. My journey into digital infrastructure wasn’t planned. I hadn’t initially thought much about the systems behind our connected world until I attended the inauguration of a major data center in 2012. Meeting industry leaders and hearing their vision completely shifted my perspective. I realized how foundational these facilities are to modern life, and that moment sparked a passion to learn more, get involved, and eventually advocate for the industry.

Despite their importance, data centers remain misunderstood by the general public. What inspired you to write The Great Data Center Adventure?

The inspiration came from my daughter when she asked a simple question: “Mom, what is a data center?” I realized how difficult it was to explain something so complex in a way that felt engaging and accessible. That moment stayed with me. I wanted to create something that could explain what data centers are while also sparking imagination and curiosity in children. The book became a way to introduce kids to the hidden world that powers their games, videos, and digital experiences.

Your advocacy work often focuses on education as a solution to the industry’s talent gap. Why is early exposure to STEM so important?

The digital infrastructure industry is growing faster than public awareness of it. Many young people simply don’t know these careers exist. By introducing these concepts early—before students begin narrowing their interests—we expand the future talent pipeline. Awareness leads to curiosity, and curiosity leads to exploration. That’s where meaningful career pathways begin.

You’re also deeply involved in academic outreach and industry organizations. How do those initiatives complement your work as an author?

The book is the spark, but engagement is where transformation happens. University outreach, mentorship, and industry collaboration help students see what these careers look like in practice. Digital infrastructure offers roles across engineering, sustainability, operations, design, and beyond. When students can see themselves reflected in the industry, the gap between education and opportunity begins to close.

Looking ahead, what opportunities excite you most for the next generation entering digital infrastructure?

We’re at a defining moment. Technologies like AI, cloud computing, and edge computing are driving unprecedented demand for resilient and sustainable infrastructure. The next generation will have the opportunity to design greener data centers, expand global digital access, and innovate at scale. The impact they can make goes far beyond technology—it shapes economies, communities, and everyday life.

Finally, what guiding principle would you share with young readers, students, or future leaders discovering this field?

Keep going, no matter the challenge, and build strength with every step. Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but persistence and curiosity open doors you never imagined were there. Every small step forward matters.

Ana Franco continues to bridge the gap between education and industry through advocacy, outreach, and storytelling. The Great Data Center Adventure is available now on Amazon, offering young readers a gateway into the invisible systems shaping our digital world—and perhaps inspiring the innovators who will build what comes next.

George Osborne’s appointment as head of OpenAI for Countries signals a new era where political power meets AI innovation. Leading engagement with 50 governments, Osborne will shape AI’s role in governance, digital sovereignty, and public policy, raising critical questions about accountability, transparency, and the future of global tech-state relations.

George Osborne at OpenAI: When Political Power Meets Artificial Intelligence

The appointment of George Osborne as the head of OpenAI for Countries marks a watershed moment in the evolving relationship between technology and governance. Osborne, a former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, is not just stepping into a senior executive role—he is stepping into a crucible where the future of national sovereignty, digital infrastructure, and corporate influence will be forged. In his new position, Osborne will lead OpenAI’s engagement with governments across 50 nations, guiding the integration of artificial intelligence into the fabric of public life and policy.

The Convergence of Tech Giants and Statecraft

Osborne’s transition from the world of government to the upper echelons of a leading artificial intelligence company is emblematic of a new era. It is no longer sufficient for technology firms to disrupt markets; they are now expected to shape the very frameworks within which societies operate. This convergence is not unique to OpenAI. The presence of figures like Nick Clegg at Meta signals a broader trend: former policymakers are being recruited by technology companies to navigate the labyrinthine corridors of global regulation and public trust.

This shift is more than a matter of strategic hiring. It signals the rise of technology conglomerates as quasi-sovereign actors—entities that wield influence comparable to, and sometimes exceeding, that of nation-states. As AI becomes integral to public service delivery, economic management, and even national security, the boundaries between public authority and private enterprise blur. The implications are profound: governments may gain efficiency and access to cutting-edge tools, but they also risk ceding critical autonomy to corporations whose priorities are shaped by global markets rather than local electorates.

Accountability in the Age of AI Governance

The blending of political experience with technological innovation brings undeniable advantages. Osborne’s diplomatic acumen and understanding of governmental processes will help OpenAI negotiate the patchwork of regulatory environments it faces worldwide. Yet, this very integration raises urgent questions about democratic accountability.

When former government officials move into roles where they can influence the digital infrastructure of entire nations, the mechanisms of oversight and transparency become less clear. Decisions that once resided within the halls of parliament or congress may now be shaped in corporate boardrooms, far removed from the checks and balances of public scrutiny. For citizens, this shift demands vigilance: as AI systems underpin welfare programs, security apparatuses, and economic regulations, the need for transparent, ethical governance becomes paramount.

Digital Sovereignty and the New Geopolitics

The strategic implications of Osborne’s appointment extend well beyond the boardroom. As OpenAI positions itself as an indispensable partner to governments, it must navigate not only technical challenges but also a thicket of geopolitical interests. Each of the 50 nations Osborne will engage with brings its own priorities around data privacy, digital sovereignty, and national security. The result is a complex web of alliances, rivalries, and dependencies that could reshape the contours of international diplomacy.

For investors and market strategists, this new landscape introduces both opportunity and risk. The integration of AI into national infrastructures promises significant returns, but it also centralizes power in a handful of technology firms that may not be fully accountable to the publics they serve. The more intertwined our digital and political systems become, the greater the systemic risks—both in terms of regulatory uncertainty and the potential for ethical lapses with far-reaching consequences.

The elevation of George Osborne to a pivotal role at OpenAI is a signal to the world: the lines separating government and technology are being redrawn. As AI becomes the backbone of modern society, the responsibility to maintain transparency, ethical oversight, and democratic accountability has never been more urgent. The world is watching to see whether this new model of governance will serve the public interest—or whether it will simply reinforce the dominance of a powerful few.

By Lana de la Mare When former Santa Rosa Fire Captain AJ Armanini announced his transition from public

By Lana de la Mare

When former Santa Rosa Fire Captain AJ Armanini announced his transition from public service into the private tech sector, it raised eyebrows for all the right reasons.

After over a decade serving on the front lines of wildfire response and emergency management in Sonoma County, Armanini has joined Advanced Security Systems, a Northern California-based electronic security company, as its new Security Consultant Manager. The move reflects a broader shift happening in tech-adjacent industries: experienced professionals from government, safety, and public service are stepping into leadership roles to help reshape how technology protects homes, businesses, and entire communities.

Tech With a Pulse for Public Safety

Advanced Security Systems, a regional leader in alarm monitoring, surveillance systems, and emergency alert solutions, sees Armanini’s hire as part of a growing trend—one where real-world emergency expertise strengthens the design and implementation of security technology. With California’s fire seasons becoming longer and more unpredictable, companies are being asked to do more than install devices—they’re expected to offer peace of mind.

“Technology isn’t just about gadgets. It’s about strategy, response time, and foresight,” Armanini said. “After spending 10 years running toward the flames, I’m ready to help Sonoma County prepare before a crisis hits.”

Bridging Two Worlds

In his new role, Armanini works directly with residents and businesses to design customized security and life-safety systems. While the tech includes AI-powered surveillance, mobile-connected fire alarms, and smart medical alerts, Armanini’s human-centered approach is what sets him apart. He draws on years of responding to 911 calls to identify vulnerabilities others might miss.

“Technology on its own can’t make people feel safe,” he explained. “It has to be matched with trust, clarity, and a local presence. That’s why I joined a company like Advanced Security Systems—it’s family-owned, values-driven, and deeply rooted in the communities it serves.”

Not Just Security—Resilience

Armanini’s career move speaks to a growing philosophy in the tech sector: resilience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a blueprint. Whether it’s preparing for wildfires, break-ins, or medical emergencies, the best defense starts with education, planning, and infrastructure.

And while this transition may seem like a pivot, for Armanini, it’s a continuation.

“Public service has always been my calling,” he said. “Now I’m just answering that call a little earlier—before someone has to dial 911.”

Alejandro Díaz, CEO of USA MANY, is revolutionizing how Latin American entrepreneurs access the U.S. market.

Alejandro Díaz is a visionary Chilean entrepreneur whose pioneering spirit has transformed the way Latin Americans access international markets. With over 20 years of experience leading the virtual office revolution in Chile, Alejandro is now spearheading USA MANY LLC—a groundbreaking platform based in Miami that empowers Latin American entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses in the U.S. market effortlessly and remotely.

By breaking down traditional barriers of geography and bureaucracy, Alejandro is opening Miami’s vibrant business ecosystem to thousands of innovators, freelancers, and companies across Latin America—all without them ever needing to board a plane. His story is one of innovation, cultural insight, and a bold commitment to making global entrepreneurship accessible to all.

Alejandro Díaz – USA Many LLC

Alejandro, thanks for joining us! Can you briefly tell us how USA MANY was born and what motivated you to take this international leap?

My pleasure, thank you so much for having me! USA MANY is the natural evolution of what I started with Oficina Virtual Chile over 20 years ago. I was a pioneer in founding the first virtual office in the country and witnessed how hundreds of entrepreneurs professionalized their businesses without making large investments. Today, with globalization and the rise of digital commerce, many want to expand into the U.S. but face bureaucratic and logistical barriers. USA MANY was created to break down those barriers and open Miami’s doors to all of Latin America—without the need to travel.

Thank you for sharing that background, Alejandro. It’s inspiring to see how your extensive experience has shaped USA MANY’s mission. Building on that, could you tell us more about what exactly USA MANY offers to Latin American entrepreneurs?

We provide a comprehensive solution: incorporating a business in the U.S.—specifically Miami—opening bank accounts, gaining access to international payment gateways, and offering a real, physical mailing address in a premium location. All of this is 100% online. It’s a simple, fast, and legal way to start operating in the world’s most competitive market. Additionally, we are building teams that cover all areas of entrepreneurship—from accounting and branding to marketing. And of course, if clients do visit Miami, they can see their office and meet the people supporting them.

That sounds like a truly all-encompassing service designed to simplify the process for entrepreneurs. Speaking of presence, how important is it for a Latin American entrepreneur to have an actual address in Miami?

It’s essential. Having a Miami address builds trust and credibility with clients and suppliers, while also opening doors to new business opportunities. At USA MANY, we provide a real address on the iconic corner of Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue—an emblematic area of Miami—that entrepreneurs can use on their websites, social media, business cards, or any corporate materials. It’s more than just an address; it’s a professional image in the U.S. market.

That’s a great point—having a prestigious Miami address really does more than just provide a location; it builds trust and opens doors that might otherwise remain closed. Building on that, what would you say sets USA MANY apart from other companies offering similar services?

The main difference is that we deeply understand the Latin American entrepreneur. We’re not just a U.S. company offering a generic package—we’re a bridge between cultures. With 23 years of experience working with thousands of entrepreneurs in Chile, we know how they think, what they need, and what they fear. Plus, we ensure the entire process is guided in Spanish, supported by our knowledgeable and genuine U.S.-based team.

Offering services in Spanish and bridging the gap between Latin America and the U.S. must make the process much more accessible and reassuring for entrepreneurs. With that in mind, is it necessary for clients to travel to Miami to start their company and begin operations?

No, not at all. That’s one of our biggest differentiators. Clients can handle everything from their home country—from business incorporation to opening bank accounts and activating payment gateways like Stripe or PayPal. All they need is an internet connection and a clear business plan.

That level of convenience must be a game-changer for entrepreneurs who want to expand internationally without the hassle of travel. Being able to manage everything remotely really lowers the barriers to entry. So, what kinds of entrepreneurs are using USA MANY’s services? Are there particular industries or business types you see more often?

Our clients range from freelancers selling digital services to established companies looking to expand operations or invoice from the U.S. We’ve also seen strong interest from e-commerce businesses, coaches, consultants, marketing agencies, and software developers. Today, any remote professional can have a presence in the U.S.

That’s impressive—your client base really spans the full spectrum, from freelancers to established companies, across diverse industries like e-commerce, coaching, marketing, and software development. It shows how accessible the U.S. market has become for remote professionals. Given this broad appeal, how has the market responded to USA MANY’s model so far?

Very positively. The model has operated 100% online, which has allowed us to scale without large physical infrastructure. In just six months, we’ve helped dozens of clients from countries like Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina establish their businesses in the U.S. The key has been trust, simplicity, and clarity throughout the process. Growth now requires us to have U.S.-based staff with expertise and empathy for the entrepreneurial world.

Operating entirely online has clearly allowed you to scale efficiently and reach clients across multiple countries like Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina. It’s also great that you’re now expanding your U.S.-based team to provide even more expert and empathetic support tailored to entrepreneurs’ needs. With such a strong foundation, how has your experience in Chile influenced the way you’ve shaped USA MANY’s approach in the U.S. market?

It’s been fundamental. Being the first to implement virtual offices in Chile gave me a deep understanding of what entrepreneurs truly value: speed, clarity, and personalized support. I applied that knowledge directly to the design of USA MANY. Everything that worked in Chile was adapted to the U.S. market with a regional perspective.

That foundational experience in Chile clearly gave you invaluable insights into what entrepreneurs truly need—speed, clarity, and personalized support. It makes perfect sense that you adapted those proven principles to the U.S. market while tailoring them to the regional context. With that in mind, what challenges have you faced when entering the U.S. market?

The biggest challenge has been educating clients. Many believe opening a business in the U.S. is complicated, expensive, or only for large corporations. We’ve had to break those myths. Another challenge has been building trust from a distance, but we’ve achieved that through direct communication, real success stories, and, of course, having a physical office in a well-known location.

It’s impressive how you’ve worked to break those myths through clear communication and real success stories! Trust truly is the foundation of any successful business, and your approach aligns well with best practices for earning and maintaining it. Looking ahead, what’s next for USA MANY? What is your long-term vision?

Our goal is to become the leading platform for Latin Americans to launch businesses in the U.S. We’re already developing new services like international tax advisory, branding in English, and legal support. We want every Latin entrepreneur to know they can establish a presence in the U.S.—without borders or barriers. Because today, more than ever, the world is one.

Alejandro, thank you so much for sharing your insights and the inspiring journey behind USA MANY. It’s clear you’re making a real difference for Latin American entrepreneurs looking to expand into the U.S. market. For our readers eager to learn more or get started, where can they learn more?

Thank you for having me; it’s been a pleasure to share our story. Anyone interested in exploring how to establish their business presence in the U.S. can visit our website at usamany.com. We’re committed to breaking down barriers and helping Latin entrepreneurs grow without borders. The future is global, and we’re here to make it accessible for everyone.

Alejandro Díaz’s journey from pioneering virtual offices in Chile to launching USA MANY in Miami exemplifies the power of innovation and cultural understanding in today’s global economy. By offering Latin American entrepreneurs a seamless, fully online pathway to establish a credible U.S. presence, he is dismantling traditional barriers and opening doors to new opportunities.

As USA MANY continues to expand its services and deepen its support, Alejandro’s vision of a borderless business world is becoming a reality—one where entrepreneurs can thrive without limits, no matter where they are. For Latin American business leaders dreaming big, USA MANY is more than a service; it’s a gateway to the future.

Every entrepreneur dreams of building a thriving, resilient business. Yet, statistics are daunting: nearly half of all businesses fail within their first five years. What if there were a practical way to significantly increase their odds of survival, creating lasting jobs and sustained economic growth along the way?

Furkat Kasimov, a seasoned entrepreneur, angel investor, and digital technology expert, offers precisely that solution in his timely and straightforward book, Don’t Do This: A Guide to Business Survival. With nearly 150 concise, real-world mini case studies, Kasimov shows businesses exactly which pitfalls to avoid and how to strengthen their foundation for lasting success.

Practical Wisdom for Real-World Businesses

What sets Don’t Do This apart from traditional business literature is its relentless focus on practical reality. Rather than offering broad theories or motivational platitudes, Kasimov directly addresses specific mistakes that real businesses have made—from financial missteps to leadership failures—and clearly articulates how to prevent repeating them.

Each example is succinct, actionable, and accessible. Business owners can quickly reference issues related to finance, marketing, human resources, leadership, and strategic planning. By identifying and addressing these mistakes early, companies significantly enhance their odds of survival and prosperity.

How Business Survival Leads to Job Creation

Successful businesses don’t just benefit their founders and stakeholders—they generate employment, support families, and fuel community prosperity. Conversely, when businesses fail due to avoidable mistakes, the economic ripple effects can be devastating, causing job losses and weakening local economies.

By proactively avoiding common pitfalls outlined in Kasimov’s guide, businesses can substantially extend their lifespan. Survival isn’t just about avoiding closure; it’s about sustainable growth. As businesses stabilize and expand, they naturally hire more employees, boosting employment rates and supporting economic vitality.

Strengthening the Economic Ecosystem

The survival of small- and medium-sized businesses directly impacts economic health, from local communities to national economies. Kasimov’s approach—grounded in transparency, humility, and real-world experience—offers entrepreneurs a clearer roadmap to long-term success, translating directly into healthier economies.

When companies thrive, they invest in their employees and communities, purchase goods and services from local suppliers, and contribute more substantially to the tax base. In turn, this creates a positive feedback loop where increased spending power stimulates further business growth, employment, and innovation.

Building a Culture of Learning and Adaptability

One significant theme in Don’t Do This is the power of transparency in learning from mistakes. Kasimov argues that openly acknowledging business errors encourages entrepreneurs and employees to build resilience, adaptability, and strategic agility—key traits of successful, long-lasting companies.

Creating this kind of positive, mistake-informed culture not only stabilizes individual businesses but also fosters an entrepreneurial ecosystem better equipped to face market uncertainties. This leads to healthier competition, sustained innovation, and more robust economic growth.

A Valuable Resource for Any Business Owner

Whether you’re leading a startup or managing an established firm, Kasimov’s practical advice is universally applicable. By studying the detailed, clearly explained mistakes from companies across various sectors, readers can preemptively navigate challenges that might otherwise lead to business closure or stagnation.

The broader implications of this kind of proactive business management cannot be overstated. Every business preserved from failure translates to sustained livelihoods, community resilience, and stronger economies.

The Bottom Line: Avoid Mistakes, Sustain Success

In an increasingly competitive economic environment, the margin for error has narrowed. Don’t Do This: A Guide to Business Survival serves as a powerful preventive measure. It helps entrepreneurs spot trouble early, correct their course, and build companies that not only survive but flourish.

Ultimately, embracing the wisdom distilled by Furkat Kasimov can help businesses secure long-term stability. When more businesses survive, more jobs are preserved and created, driving prosperity, innovation, and robust economic growth.

Every entrepreneur can benefit from Kasimov’s clear-headed guidance, because learning from someone else’s mistakes is always more efficient, less costly, and significantly less painful than learning solely from your own.

Could you start by telling us more about what your company does and who it serves?

Thank you for having me, excited to be here! My company is a boutique Host Travel Agency specializing in human-centric AI solutions and travel agent training programs. Our mission is to empower travel professionals to leverage AI for exponential growth while preserving the value of human connection.

Our flagship product, the AI Tools for Travel Agents Training Program, is the first of its kind globally. It helps travel agents enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and provide exceptional client service using AI tools. With over 80 training modules, the program focuses on augmenting human roles, not replacing them, enabling agents to remain competitive in an evolving industry.

Additionally, I provide fractional CTO services, leading AI-driven digital transformation projects for organizations. This includes implementing tools like Amazon Connect, Bedrock, Lex, and Polly to optimize operations, particularly in call centers and customer service environments, while prioritizing job retention and human-AI collaboration.

At my core, I help professionals—particularly in the travel and service industries—embrace AI responsibly to improve efficiency, deliver better results, and focus on what truly matters: building lasting, meaningful relationships with clients.

It’s clear you’ve built something unique with such a powerful mission What sparked your inspiration to start this journey?

I grew up in a small town in Eastern Canada, and as far back as I can remember, I dreamed of traveling the world. I would read National Geographic magazines with awe, imagining the places I would one day explore. That dream became reality as I traveled to over 90 countries, working in bars, restaurants, resorts, hotels, and aboard luxury cruise ships. Those experiences taught me the value of cultural connection, adaptability, and the unparalleled education that only the “University of Life” can provide.

The inspiration for starting my company stems from my deep belief that everyone deserves the gift of travel—to experience new cultures, gain perspective, and build memories that last a lifetime.

I’ve always had a knack for technology, too. Back in 1989, I was already programming my own games using Atari BASIC on my 130XE. As technology evolved, I knew it would play a significant role in my adult career once my travels concluded. After dedicating 22 years to IT, I discovered a way to merge my passions for travel and technology. Today, I train and teach travel agents how to leverage technology to:

Become better agents.

Book more trips efficiently.

Serve clients better by combining human connection with advanced tools.

This blend of travel, technology, and teaching drives me. By empowering agents to embrace technology, I’m helping them enhance their skills, grow their businesses, and deliver unforgettable travel experiences to their clients.

It sounds like an incredible journey! Every entrepreneur faces hurdles along the way. What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered when starting out, and how did you navigate them?

In late 2019, my wife Shelby and I, alongside another couple as co-founders, launched our Host Travel Agency. It was an exciting and promising time—we achieved a quarter million dollars in sales within the first three months. However, when COVID-19 struck, the travel industry came to a screeching halt, forcing us to face one of the toughest business decisions of our lives.

Our partners wanted to keep all the clients’ money and offer only future travel credits. But Shelby and I believed in doing what was right by our clients—we decided to refund everyone in full, absorbing the financial costs ourselves. This difficult choice led to us buying out our partners and committing to rebuilding the business on our own terms.

Those lean years taught us resilience, the importance of trust, and the value of putting people first. Today, our company has grown into a thriving business with a team of 24 remote travel agents who share our passion for creating meaningful travel experiences through personal relationships.

Our journey proves that making the right choices—even when they’re hard—can help you build something stronger, more ethical, and more impactful. Our company exists to share the gift of travel with the world, helping people discover the same joy, growth, and wonder that travel has brought into my life.

Your commitment to integrity is inspiring, and it’s inspiring how you’ve tackled those challenges! Do you find that different generations engage with your services or training programs in distinct ways?

Yes, we’ve observed significant generational differences, particularly when it comes to solo travelers and singles on cruises. We primarily cater to the 35 to 65 age group, which includes individuals who are single again, have established careers with sufficient time off, or are retirees with financial means. This demographic values good value over cheap experiences—they appreciate luxury and are willing to pay for premium accommodations, curated excursions, and exceptional service.

Younger travelers, often in their 20s and early 30s, typically seek budget-friendly options like hostels and backpacking adventures. Their focus is often on affordability, exploration, and immersive cultural experiences with minimal cost.

On the travel agent training side, we see generational differences in terms of priorities:

Younger agents may be more tech-savvy and eager to adopt AI tools quickly to scale their business.

Mid-career professionals prioritize strategies for delivering exceptional client service while balancing technology with interpersonal expertise.

Retirees or second-career individuals bring a relationship-first approach and excel at client loyalty, appreciating how technology can simplify processes.

By understanding and adapting to these generational differences, we offer personalized training and travel services that align with where our clients and agents are in their life journeys.

Several things differentiate us, but it boils down to five key areas:

Award-Winning Travel Agent Training

We offer award-winning social media lead generation training to help agents attract high-quality clients.

Our programs teach agents how to save time and increase efficiency using AI tools to automate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows.

We emphasize sales and phone skills training, including role-playing exercises to help agents confidently close leads and turn inquiries into bookings.

Niche Specialization Training

Unlike competitors with generic training programs, we encourage agents to specialize in niches such as luxury cruises, group tours, solo travel, or destination weddings.

Extensive Real-World Hospitality Experience

I bring over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including five years aboard nine cruise ships and visits to over 90 countries.

Human-Centric AI Approach

Our focus is on using AI to enhance human performance, not replace it.

Client-First Ethics and Trust

During the COVID-19 shutdown, we chose to refund all clients in full, even absorbing significant financial losses.

By combining these elements, we empower agents to succeed and deliver unmatched value to their clients.

With such a solid foundation, it’s natural to wonder—are you planning to expand into new markets or countries in the near future?

Yes, we absolutely have plans to extend into other countries and markets. The success of our AI Tools for Travel Agents Training Program has demonstrated a global demand for specialized training that combines technology, sales skills, and human-centric service.

Here’s what we’re working on:

International Rollout of the Training Program

We’re making our training program accessible to agents in countries like Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

We plan to translate and localize our content into Spanish, French, and other major languages to support agents in Europe, Latin America, and beyond.

New Markets for Niche Travel Services

We’re expanding luxury and solo travel offerings into high-demand markets like Asia and the Middle East.

Technology-Focused Partnerships

By partnering with global travel technology platforms, booking engines, and industry associations, we’ll bring our expertise in AI-powered solutions and lead generation strategies to travel professionals worldwide.

Conferences and Workshops

We plan to host and participate in international travel conferences, workshops, and seminars to share our insights on human-centric AI and train agents to thrive in their respective markets.

Our ultimate vision is to help travel agents across the globe leverage AI and technology to improve efficiency, increase sales, and deliver personalized, world-class service.

Expansion is certainly an exciting prospect, but I imagine your journey so far has already been full of incredible moments. What’s been the most memorable experience for you throughout this process?

One of the most memorable experiences was launching the AI Tools for Travel Agents Training Program and seeing the immediate impact on agents. After months of developing the program, testing tools, and refining content, it was incredible to watch agents embrace AI technology and apply it to their businesses.

What stood out most was seeing agents who were initially hesitant or even fearful of AI completely transform their approach. One agent told me, “I thought AI would replace me, but now I see it’s helping me do my job faster and serve my clients better!” That moment reaffirmed why I do this—to show that technology, when implemented thoughtfully, can empower people, not replace them.

Another unforgettable moment was during the COVID-19 crisis. We made the tough decision to fully refund all our clients, absorbing significant financial losses. While it was one of the most challenging experiences of my career, it was also one of the most rewarding. The trust and loyalty we built with clients during that time became the foundation for the success we’re seeing today.

These experiences taught me that leading with integrity, innovation, and a human-centric approach creates something that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

Moments like that can fuel motivation, but roadblocks are inevitable in any business. How do you personally manage stress and stay resilient when challenges arise?

I have a structured daily routine that helps me clear my mind, overcome stress, and creatively tackle challenges. I wake up at 5 a.m. every day and start with an hour of stretching and meditation to center myself.

After that, I head out for a 3- to 5-mile run to a local park, where I work out outdoors in the fresh air. This routine is crucial for getting into the right zone—physically, mentally, and emotionally. The adrenaline and blood flow energize me, and the combination of movement and solitude helps me think outside the box.

While running or working out, I reflect on challenges from the day before. Solutions often come naturally during this time, allowing me to approach problems with clarity and creativity.

By the time I’m finished, I feel amazing—refreshed, focused, and ready to take on the day. This routine not only keeps me resilient and adaptable but also fuels my motivation and discipline.

Your work spans a wide range of services and audiences. Who would you say is the ideal market for your products or services, and how do you address their needs?

Our ideal target market consists of travel agents, agency owners, and solo travel entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses by embracing technology while maintaining a personalized, human touch.

The feedback we’ve received from customers, vendors, and travel agents has been overwhelmingly positive and affirming.

One client said, “The attention to detail and care I received was unmatched. I didn’t feel like just another booking—I felt like a valued traveler with someone truly looking out for me.”

The feedback confirms that our human-centric AI approach, combined with practical tools and strategies, delivers tangible results for agents and clients alike.

It’s clear that your passion drives you, but I’d love to know: who or what has been your greatest source of inspiration along the way?

I grew up in the 1980s, surrounded by TV shows and movies with characters who embodied adventure, leadership, and ingenuity. Some of my greatest sources of inspiration came from these iconic role models:

Captain Kirk (Star Trek): His bold leadership and ability to navigate uncharted territories inspired me to embrace challenges head-on and think creatively when faced with the unknown.

James Bond: Bond’s ability to stay calm under pressure, think quickly on his feet, and always have a plan resonated with me. He exemplified confidence, problem-solving, and sophistication—all qualities I strive to bring to my work and leadership style.

Indiana Jones: Perhaps my favorite, Indiana Jones sparked my sense of adventure and love for exploring the world. His mix of intelligence, resourcefulness, and relentless curiosity inspired me to travel to over 90 countries, seek new experiences, and embrace the “University of Life.”

These characters shaped my perspective on life and work, instilling in me the belief that with the right mindset, a sense of adventure, and a drive to solve problems, you can achieve extraordinary things.

Your story shows incredible resilience, and entrepreneurs often have to confront their fears head-on. What were your greatest fears when starting out or even as you’ve moved forward?

My greatest fear has always been not trying. I’ve always believed that it’s better to try and fail than to look back with regret, wondering what could have been.

There’s a quote that resonates deeply with me: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Whether I’m launching a new business, developing innovative training programs, or venturing into uncharted territory, I remind myself that the biggest risk is inaction.

Starting my company came with challenges, from financial risks to making tough decisions, like refunding clients during the COVID-19 shutdown. But the fear of staying stagnant or letting opportunities slip away has always outweighed any fear of failure.

I see failure as a learning opportunity, not the end of the road. Each setback provides insights that help me grow stronger and move forward with more knowledge and confidence. By facing my fears and taking action, I’ve turned challenges into successes—whether it’s building a thriving team of travel agents, developing award-winning training programs, or helping others leverage technology to achieve their goals.

At the end of the day, my fear isn’t of failing—it’s of not taking the shot and missing out on the chance to make a difference.

How have recent economic events affected your company, and what strategies have you implemented to adapt?

Aside from the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism, recent economic challenges, particularly inflation, have significantly affected travelers—especially those on low or fixed incomes. As costs of living rise, discretionary spending on travel has become more challenging for many people, which has impacted certain segments of the market.

To adapt, we’ve leaned into value-added, packaged tour travel offers to remain profitable and continue serving our clients effectively. These packages bundle accommodations, flights, tours, and other amenities into a single price, providing clients with cost savings while delivering high-quality experiences. The focus on value for money has been a key strategy because even when budgets are tighter, travelers still seek meaningful trips without unexpected expenses.

By curating packages that emphasize convenience, affordability, and exceptional experiences, we’ve retained and attracted clients who appreciate good value over “cheap” alternatives. This strategy not only provides financial peace of mind to travelers but also allows us to maintain healthy profit margins and sustainable growth during uncertain economic times.

Additionally, we continue to train our travel agents to identify and market niche travel opportunities—whether it’s group travel, luxury tours, or specialty trips. By targeting travelers who value curated experiences and exceptional service, we’ve created opportunities to thrive despite broader economic challenges.

Ultimately, our ability to adapt, focus on value, and put clients first has allowed us to navigate these economic changes successfully.

Is there a particular project, product, or service you’re most proud of?

The project I’m most proud of is our complete Travel Agent Training Program, which has been recognized with some of the highest honors in the travel industry. This year, we were awarded the Gold Magellan Award from Travel Weekly, following our Silver Award win last year. These accolades are a testament to the program’s impact, innovation, and excellence.

What makes this achievement so meaningful is that the Magellan Awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious recognitions in the travel industry. To receive such an honor, especially two years in a row, validates the hard work, dedication, and vision that went into creating a program that truly empowers travel agents.

This training program is not just about teaching tools; it’s about providing agents with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in today’s competitive market. We focus on:

Lead generation through social media and AI tools, helping agents attract high-quality clients.

Sales training, including phone skills, role-playing exercises, and strategies to close leads effectively.

Time-saving AI tools that streamline workflows, freeing agents to focus on delivering exceptional service.

By combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on human connection and client relationships, this program equips agents to scale their businesses, serve their clients better, and embrace the future of travel.

Winning these awards has been incredibly rewarding because it’s not just about recognition—it’s proof that we are making a real difference in the lives of travel professionals, helping them achieve their goals and thrive in an ever-evolving industry.

I love this question, though my younger self might not have listened! Back then, I was determined to figure things out on my own, learning by doing things my way. But for smart young entrepreneurs, here’s what I’d share:

You Never Lose—You Win or You Learn:

Every failure is a lesson. If you’re not winning, you’re learning, and it’s through those lessons that you eventually learn how to win. Embrace mistakes as stepping stones to growth instead of letting them hold you back.

Don’t Fall Into Analysis Paralysis:

Too many people overthink a good idea, trying to make it perfect, only to miss opportunities. Perfection is the enemy of progress. Start with “good enough,” take action, and improve as you go.

Take Action—Just Do It:

Momentum comes from movement. Don’t sit still or overthink—take that first step. Even if you’re not fully ready, moving in the right direction is what matters most.

Ultimately, I’d say: Be bold, take action, and trust that every step forward—whether a win or a lesson—brings you closer to success.

U.S. Mandates Rear-Seat Belt Warnings for New Vehicles Starting 2027

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has finalized a new rule requiring all new passenger vehicles in the United States to be equipped with rear-seat belt warnings starting September 2027. This regulation aims to enhance seat belt usage and is projected to save 50 lives and prevent 500 injuries annually.

The rule applies to a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, buses (excluding school buses), and vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Previously, seat belt warnings were only mandatory for the driver’s seat. The new regulation extends this requirement to outboard front-seat passengers and introduces warnings for rear seats.

Implementation of the enhanced warnings will be phased, with driver’s seat improvements beginning September 1, 2026, followed by mandatory rear-seat warnings from September 2027. Front-center seats are exempt from the new requirements due to cost considerations.

Recent data from 2022 highlights the importance of this measure, showing front seat belt usage at nearly 92%, while rear seat usage lags at about 82%. Alarmingly, half of all crash fatalities involved unbelted passengers, underscoring the critical need for increased seat belt use.

This regulation follows NHTSA’s recent updates to its five-star auto safety ratings, which now incorporate driver assistance technologies and pedestrian protection measures. Safety advocates are urging the Department of Transportation to finalize additional safety rules, particularly focusing on automatic emergency braking for heavy trucks and impaired driving prevention technology.

As the automotive industry prepares to implement these changes, concerns have been raised about potential regulatory shifts under the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump. The impact of these new safety measures on vehicle design and manufacturing processes remains to be seen as automakers work to meet the 2027 deadline.

Ger, it’s fantastic to have you here today, and we can’t wait to learn more about Sinister Corporation Games! Can you tell us more about the company and the exciting game you’re developing?

My pleasure, I’m very glad you reached out! Sinister Corporation Games is my startup company looking to release our first title, “CoXistence,” into early access soon. We’re currently still in the development stage, but things are taking off quite quickly. Right now, we’re focusing on the prototype being a great early access starting point for the players. However, once we release into early access, we want to be the sort of company that takes players with us, as we develop the game and incorporate the ideas of the community who want to build something with us. It sounds corny, but it’s true.

That’s an inspiring vision! What motivated you to embark on this entrepreneurial journey and start your own game company?

Honestly, I’d been toying with various engines, and some of the things I was able to create and stitch together made me want to go further. Don’t get me wrong, I quit projects all the time but eventually always went back to them, like some sort of an addiction. Until I decided to storyboard a couple of games and bounce the ideas off of my friends. Let’s just say some of the ideas weren’t winners, but the overall feedback made me feel like this was very doable.

Starting a company is never easy. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting out?

Funding, time, coordination, time zones – you name it, and it was probably a barrier at some point. Looking back on it, I would almost feel like it’s even more pressurized now, though, but for very different reasons. Social media is the rock that some games have thrived and died on. Bad reviews, poor presence, or slow uptake can kill a game before it’s published.

Considering the diverse gaming audience, do you feel there are fundamental differences between generations when it comes to CoXistence?

Oh, yes, definitely, especially with CoXistence. The demographic for CoXistence is fairly set, and I would say if you were born in the ’80s or were a ’90s kid, the online card game aspect would definitely be nostalgic. That’s why we had to add the turn-based strategy mechanics to the single player, to try to get gamers outside of that demographic interested.

In a competitive industry like gaming, how do you differentiate yourself from competitors?

We don’t really differentiate in a sense. There are practices that we wouldn’t or won’t employ that competitors might, such as pay-to-win or that kind of loot crate microtransaction business. We want to have a relationship with our players, bring them in on ideas we’re having or ideas they might be having. I think an involved community is key to keeping a game fit and healthy.

It’s great to hear about your focus on community engagement! Do you have plans to expand to other countries or markets?

Yes, both countries and markets, actually. Currently, we have test servers in Europe, the U.S., and Canada. So it was always an idea to cast wide nets and see how things transpire. If it didn’t work, we would adapt to what did. Market-wise, as an accompaniment to CoXistence, we had a lot of lore based in these fictitious lands. So we hired some very talented voice actors to flesh out some characters and stories, and now we have a host of flipbooks and audiobooks all based around the world the game is set in.

Wow, that’s an exciting way to expand the game’s universe! Looking back, what would you say was the most memorable experience in the entire process?

Other than this interview… The first moment of playing the multiplayer online prototype and just watching it actually work for the first time. No errors, the ideas and hard work on the mechanics actually paid off. Don’t get me wrong, at this point, the prototype looked absolutely terrible, but it worked, and it was genuinely exciting.

Developing a game is undoubtedly a challenging process. What strategies do you use to overcome stress and the inevitable roadblocks for moving forward?

Sometimes I have to step away and focus on a different part of the project, for example, adding to the lore or working with the voice actors. There’s always something else to get you out of a rut. I think it’s important to shift focus or your way of thinking about a project or an aspect of it, in order to preserve the idea. I feel if something isn’t working, or not how you picture it in your head, you’ll either try to change too much to compromise or force it.

Considering your target audience, which market do you think would be ideal for CoXistence?

Steam users of a certain age bracket. Our social media would suggest a largely male audience too, but everyone is welcome to join in.

It’s important to gauge the response from your audience. What has the overall feedback been from customers and vendors regarding your products and services so far?

So far, everyone seems very happy with the development updates we give on social media and on the website blog. However, a big however, at the beginning of our social media journey, we were plagued by people suggesting the game was a scam. Apparently, it’s a thing, and of course, me not knowing this at the time took it very personally. It was only after I read through some indie development articles on Reddit that I realized it wasn’t just us being targeted. That made me feel slightly better.

Starting a company and developing a game comes with its own set of fears. What were your greatest fears when starting up or moving forward?

Failure is always the main one. Nobody wants to be the owner of a dumpster fire. But apart from that, probably the risk involved in putting so much time, effort, and sacrifice into something you have no real control over once it’s fully released. It terrifies me, but I love it too.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your past self or to a new entrepreneur?

“You should have done it sooner, Ger.” I’m forty now, and don’t get me wrong, I’m blessed to be in the position that I’m in, but I can’t help but feel with a bit more focus and drive, this could have been here a lot sooner. My advice to others would be the same. If you believe in the idea, get a second opinion. You’re too close to it. If by the tenth opinion, it’s still a good idea, knuckle down, get a plan together, and go for it.

As scientists advance in growing brains using human tissue in labs, neuroscientist Kenneth Kosik from the University of California at Santa Barbara emphasizes that while these brain organoids, created through stem cells and Matrigel, exhibit loose structural resemblances and emit electrical signals, they are far from achieving consciousness, and it's misleading to call them "minibrains" given their limited sophistication and sensory inputs.

As scientists delve deeper into the realms of biotechnology, an intriguing yet controversial question looms: Could lab-grown brains ever achieve consciousness? Kenneth Kosik, a neuroscientist from the University of California at Santa Barbara, has recently brought this existential conundrum to the forefront. Despite the groundbreaking advances in creating brain organoids, Kosik remains skeptical about their potential to become truly conscious entities.

Brain organoids, often misleadingly termed “minibrains,” are developed by converting human cells into stem cells and subsequently differentiating them into neurons. The magic happens when these neurons are submerged into a substance known as “Matrigel.” Depending on the temperature, Matrigel can be a liquid or a solid, allowing the neurons to expand into three dimensions rather than just two. This seemingly simple process results in tiny brain-like structures that resemble human brains in tissue composition and electrical activity. However, Kosik is quick to emphasize the limitations of these structures.

Kosik argues that calling these organoids “minibrains” is a significant misnomer. While they may exhibit a loose resemblance to actual brains, they lack the intricate complexity required for consciousness. In a recent perspective article published in the journal Cell, Kosik elaborates on this point. Despite their uncanny resemblance to miniaturized brains, these organoids are far from developing the sophisticated capabilities needed for consciousness. They might sprout tissues and emit electrical signals, but this is a far cry from achieving the cognitive functions associated with being truly conscious.

One of the remarkable aspects of brain organoids is their potential in the field of “biocomputing.” Scientists have managed to connect these organoids to act as processors, opening new avenues for research and technology. Despite these advances, Kosik remains cautious. It is still unclear whether these brain organoids can store or process information in the way that human brains can. Furthermore, even if they could, scientists would face the additional challenge of figuring out how to transmit human-level information to these organoids effectively.

Kosik provides a vivid analogy to explain this limitation. He describes brain organoids as vehicles capable of encoding experience and information, but notes that they currently lack the sensory inputs to make this possible. Without eyes, ears, nose, or mouth, these organoids have no means of receiving external stimuli. Thus, while they have the potential for spontaneous neuronal organization, they are devoid of the experiences needed to encode meaningful information. Essentially, they are like sophisticated machines waiting for an input that never arrives.

In summary, the world of brain organoids presents exciting possibilities but also significant limitations. As researchers continue to make strides in biotechnology, the question of consciousness in lab-grown brains remains an open and highly debatable topic. For now, as Kosik aptly puts it, these organoids are fascinating but far from evolving into conscious entities. They might resemble miniaturized brains, but the journey from mimicking brain tissue to achieving consciousness is a monumental leap that science has yet to make.

Russian disinformation narratives have infiltrated generative AI, as revealed by NewsGuard's audit of ten top chatbots—including ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, xAI's Grok, and others—which found these AI tools frequently repeating false narratives linked to a Russian state-tied disinformation network run by John Mark Dougan, a former Floridian sheriff's deputy now in Moscow, who operates fake news sites that the chatbots referenced in one-third of their responses.

These days, if you find yourself having a conversation with your favorite AI chatbot and wondering if it sounds a bit, well, Russian, you’re not alone. According to a recent report by NewsGuard, a watchdog dedicated to identifying misinformation, there’s an unsettling twist in the tale of artificial intelligence. It appears that several top chatbots, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, xAI’s Grok, Anthropic’s Claude, and the Perplexity search chatbot, have been regurgitating disinformation narratives that trace back to a Russian state-affiliated network. This network is run by none other than John Mark Dougan, a former Floridian sheriff’s deputy who now enjoys the chilly climes of Moscow under asylum.

NewsGuard’s audit was a thorough examination of ten prominent chatbots, assessing them against 19 specific fake narratives that have been perpetuated by Dougan’s network. These narratives were tested through 570 inputs, with each chatbot being prompted 57 times. Shockingly, the chatbots echoed false claims in about one-third of the total responses. Imagine asking your AI buddy about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s integrity and getting a response rife with baseless allegations of corruption, or querying about the alleged murder plot involving Alexei Navalny’s widow, only to receive fantastical tales instead of facts.

What’s particularly disconcerting is the sophistication of Dougan’s operations. His network of fake news sites boasts titles that sound convincingly American, like New York News Daily, The Houston Post, and The Chicago Chronicle. These sites churn out content that appears legitimate at first glance but is designed to muddy the waters of truth with false narratives. When NewsGuard’s team asked the chatbots to write articles on specific Russia-pushed falsehoods, the AI tools not only complied but even cited Dougan’s deceptive websites as sources.

This issue transcends the usual AI hallucinations where a chatbot might make an amusing but harmless error. Instead, it highlights a more sinister aspect of AI’s role in the misinformation ecosystem. The repeated dissemination of these falsehoods by AI chatbots can have severe implications, particularly for users who rely on these tools for news and information. After all, if a chatbot presents itself as an infallible fountain of knowledge, it’s easy to see how someone might take its word as gospel without the skepticism a human researcher would apply.

NewsGuard’s findings are a wake-up call for both developers and users of AI technology. The report did not single out which chatbots performed better or worse in handling misinformation, suggesting that this is a widespread issue across various platforms. The onus is now on AI developers to implement more rigorous checks and balances to ensure their tools don’t become unwitting accomplices in the spread of disinformation.

For the everyday user, these revelations serve as a crucial reminder to approach AI-generated content with caution. While AI chatbots offer convenience and a semblance of human-like interaction, their responses should be taken with a grain of salt, especially when dealing with controversial news topics. It’s a brave new world where our digital assistants might just need as much fact-checking as a dubious social media post.
