Universal Pictures Announces “Jurassic World Rebirth” with New Cast
Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have officially announced the next installment in the billion-dollar Jurassic franchise. “Jurassic World Rebirth” is set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, marking a new era for the beloved dinosaur saga.
The upcoming sequel will feature a fresh cast, with Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali taking the lead roles. This change comes after Chris Pratt’s successful run as the protagonist in the last three “Jurassic World” movies.
The franchise, which began with Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” in 1993, has seen a resurgence in recent years. The “Jurassic World” trilogy, starring Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, has consistently grossed over $1 billion per film.
Set five years after the events of “Jurassic World Dominion,” the new film will explore a world where dinosaurs inhabit isolated areas due to Earth’s changing ecology. The plot revolves around a team of scientists and operatives seeking DNA samples from three large dinosaurs for potential drug development. Their mission intersects with a civilian boating expedition, leading to a mysterious discovery on an island.
Johansson will portray Zora Bennett, a covert operations expert, while Ali takes on the role of Duncan Kincaid, the team leader. The ensemble cast also includes Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, among others.
Industry analyst Rob Mitchell from Gower Street Analytics predicts another billion-dollar success for the franchise, citing the star power of Johansson and Ali as a significant draw.
“Jurassic Park” screenwriter David Koepp returns to pen the script, with Gareth Edwards, known for 2014’s “Godzilla,” set to direct. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how this new chapter will evolve the Jurassic saga for a new generation of moviegoers.
