Jackbox Games Set to Launch Cloud Streaming Service for Smart TVs
Jackbox Games, the popular party game developer, is expanding its reach with a new cloud streaming service designed specifically for smart TVs. The company announced that the service will enter beta testing on select smart TV platforms in Spring 2025, marking a significant shift in how players can access their favorite Jackbox titles.
Traditionally, Jackbox games have been available in “Party Packs” for consoles and PCs. The new smart TV app aims to simplify access by eliminating the need for additional devices, allowing users to play directly on their televisions.
The initial offering will include a limited selection of games available for free, supported by advertisements. Jackbox Games plans to eventually offer its full catalog through a subscription model, similar to its current offering on Amazon’s Luna platform, where users can access Jackbox titles for $4.99 per month.
To power this new service, Jackbox Games is utilizing Amazon’s AWS GameLift Streams technology. This cloud-based solution enables companies to create and deploy cloud gaming applications efficiently. Other major players in the gaming industry, such as Bandai Namco, are also leveraging this technology for projects like streaming a metaverse platform for Gundam fans.
As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Jackbox Games’ move into cloud streaming for smart TVs represents a strategic effort to make their popular party games more accessible to a wider audience. The success of this initiative could potentially reshape how casual gamers interact with multiplayer experiences in their living rooms.
