Brandon Sklenar Addresses “It Ends With Us” Controversy on Social Media
Actor Brandon Sklenar has taken to Instagram to address the growing controversy surrounding the upcoming film adaptation of “It Ends With Us.” Sklenar, the first cast member to speak out about the backlash, condemned the vilification of women involved in the project.
In a lengthy Instagram statement, Sklenar expressed his desire to address the online criticism that has been circulating. He praised author Colleen Hoover and his female co-stars for their dedication to the project, emphasizing the film’s message of hope and perseverance for women.
“It Ends With Us,” adapted from Hoover’s bestselling novel, is a romantic drama that tackles the sensitive topic of domestic violence. The film stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who also serves as the director.
The controversy surrounding the film has escalated in recent weeks, with speculation of a fallout between Lively and Baldoni during the press tour. Critics have also taken issue with Lively’s lighthearted promotion of the film, given its serious subject matter. The backlash intensified following the release of a clip from journalist Kjersti Flaan’s interview with Lively.
Sklenar, who plays Atlas Corrigan, the childhood friend and first love of Lively’s character, shared a personal anecdote about someone close to him finding comfort in Hoover’s book and the film adaptation. This connection appears to have motivated his public statement.
The actor used his platform to call for more positive engagement with the film, emphasizing its inspirational intent. He urged fans to cease spreading hate comments and advocated for a new narrative that supports women and all individuals.
As of now, Sklenar’s representative has not responded to Business Insider’s request for comment on the matter.
