Kay-Andra, thank you so much for joining us today! Let us dive right in. Can you start by telling us a bit about your company and the services it offers?
My pleasure! Thank you for having me on! Zamar Group is the leading major event, staging, and production management company in The Bahamas. We are a full-service audiovisual and event production company that has built an international reputation as a provider of powerful audiovisual solutions for clients of all sizes across a variety of industries.
Congratulations on your recent appointment as COO! Could you share what inspired you to join Zamar Group and what unique perspective you bring to the team?
Thank you! My recent promotion to COO was a momentous step in my journey with Zamar Group. The company, rooted in family heritage and tradition as a second-generation business, has always held a special place in my heart. What truly inspired me was the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, forward-thinking team in an industry that’s often perceived as male-dominated. As a woman in the audiovisual industry, I’m proud to represent a minority category. I bring a fresh perspective that values diversity and innovation in our approach. It’s a privilege to be part of a company that values inclusivity and is committed to excellence.
In the world of audiovisual and event production, I can imagine there were some interesting challenges along the way. What were the greatest challenges you faced when starting in this industry, and how did you overcome them?
The audiovisual industry can be consuming, so I learned how to set and stick to my personal life boundaries and make it a point to take time for myself and do the things I enjoy.
It is fascinating how different generations perceive and use services differently. Can you elaborate on the fundamental differences you have noticed when various generations use your services?
Some fundamental differences between generations when using our services usually show up when it comes to understanding budgets and design components. I have found that older generations have more of a disconnect with today’s cost of services versus younger generations. In comparison, younger generations care more about the aesthetics of the event, and the older generations care more about the content and quality of the content delivery.
Certainly, Kay-Andra. With a reputation for excellence, how do you set Zamar Group apart from your competitors in the audiovisual and event production industry?
We stand out as the premier choice in our field, and our client’s feedback is a testament to our excellence.
An impressive list of celebrities you have worked with, I see! What would you say is the most memorable experience or event you have been a part of during your journey with Zamar Group?
Most memorable are the famous faces we have had the pleasure of supporting with our AV services: Lizzo, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Justin Beiber, Earth Wind and Fire, Katy Perry, Brian McKnight, Wycliffe Jean, Lionel Richie, Robyn Thick, Pitbull, Charlie Wilson, Frankie Beverly, Sheryl Crow, Darius Rucker, Flo Rida, Buju Banton, Notorious BIG, Machel Montano, KES the Band, and the list goes on and on!
Feedback and recognition are always valuable. Can you tell us about the overall feedback you’ve received from customers and vendors regarding your products and services?
We have won numerous Industry Awards reflecting our success in making our clients happy along with garnering respect from our colleagues.
It is wonderful to have a source of inspiration in your life. Who has been your greatest source of inspiration, especially in your journey with Zamar Group?
My greatest source of inspiration is my dad, Andrew Gardiner Jr. He has followed his passion and vision, all while creating a new industry in The Bahamas and paving the way for others to take a non-traditional career path.
Looking back at your journey, is there a particular project, product, or service that you are most proud of, and could you share why it holds a special place in your heart?
There are two projects I am most proud of. The first is that two companies of our group of companies, Zamar Productions and Scott’s House Media, provided full production for The Bahamas’ 50th Independence Celebrations this past July. This event was a monumental occasion for our country, and to be a second-generation Bahamian company to provide full production for this event was equally monumental.
The second is an upcoming project this December where we are providing all event production services for one of the world’s largest information technology companies.
Furthermore, finally, what advice would you give to your past self or to a new entrepreneur starting their journey in this field?
I would tell my past self to “Give yourself grace. You will not always have it figured out, and it is okay to fail just as long as you do not quit.”
Kay-Andra, thank you so much for joining us today, and congratulations again on your recent promotion! For more on Kay-Andra, Zamar Group, and their extraordinary contributions, visit their website at zamargroup.com.
