Huawei Unveils Trifold Mate XT Phone for International Markets
Chinese tech giant Huawei has announced the international launch of its trifold Mate XT smartphone, marking the device’s first appearance outside of China. The innovative phone, priced at €3,499 (approximately $3,660), is set to compete in the high-end foldable market.
The Mate XT boasts a unique dual-hinge folding display, offering users three distinct screen configurations. When closed, it presents a 6.4-inch panel, while fully opened, it transforms into a 10.2-inch tablet-sized screen. A partially unfolded state provides a 7.9-inch display option. Notably, the device measures just 3.6mm at its thinnest point when open, showcasing Huawei’s commitment to sleek design.
In terms of hardware, the Mate XT is equipped with a 5,600mAh battery, which the company claims will last a full day. The device supports both wired and wireless charging. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the rear camera setup, featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor, accompanied by 12-megapixel ultrawide and periscope shooters.
However, like other recent Huawei devices, the Mate XT does not officially support Google apps or services, including the Play Store. Instead, it runs on Huawei’s proprietary operating system, though it has not yet been upgraded to the latest HarmonyOS Next.
Initial hands-on impressions highlight the phone’s sturdy build despite its complex design. The folding mechanism requires users to fold each screen segment in different directions, adding a unique aspect to its usability.
While the launch event was held in Kuala Lumpur, specific international markets for the Mate XT have not been confirmed. The device will not be launching in the UK or the US at present. It will be available in a single configuration, featuring 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Alongside the Mate XT, Huawei introduced several other products, including the FreeArc open-ear earbuds, Band 10 fitness tracker, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet with a matte OLED display, further expanding its product ecosystem.
As the foldable phone market continues to evolve, Huawei’s Mate XT represents a bold step forward in design and functionality, potentially reshaping user expectations for mobile devices.
