West Hollywood, California’s OG Cannabis Café is making waves in the local scene, selling out its Super Bowl game day reservations in a mere 15 minutes. This unique establishment has recently opened its doors to the public, offering a range of special events such as marijuana meditations, comedy nights, and of course, the highly anticipated Super Bowl watch party. The city of West Hollywood has embraced the cannabis industry, inviting businesses to operate under specific local regulations within the designated “Emerald Village.”
Initially launched with much fanfare, the OG Cannabis Café faced a temporary closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the café has stealthily relaunched in recent months, rejoining a growing community of local consumption lounges like Artist Tree and PleasureMed’s Irie restaurant. The OG Cannabis Café boasts three distinct spaces: an outdoor smoker-friendly patio, an indoor area for smokers, and a smoke-free patio that offers a selection of wine and beer. While patrons over the age of 21 are free to move between these spaces, regulations prohibit the transfer of cannabis or alcohol from one area to another.
DeJanae Evins, the café’s experiential marketing and events manager, highlights the diverse offerings available at the OG Cannabis Café. With a cannabis menu featuring pre-rolls, loose flower, and gummies sourced from reputable suppliers like Wav, Helena Farms, and Dizzies, the café aims to cater to a wide range of preferences. Notably, the establishment refrains from selling high-potency extracts or cannabis-infused foods; however, customers are welcome to bring their own preferred cannabis products.
In line with the café’s innovative approach, a nominal fee is charged for patrons looking to bring their cannabis to the establishment. Similar to a corkage fee in a traditional restaurant setting, tables accommodating up to three individuals incur a $25 fee, while larger groups are charged $50 per table. This approach not only sets the OG Cannabis Café apart but also ensures that guests can enjoy their preferred cannabis products in a welcoming environment.
Evins envisions the OG Cannabis Café as a hub for local programming tailored to the community’s interests. In addition to catering to locals, Evins is actively collaborating with hotels to provide tourists and visitors with a legal and enjoyable space to purchase and consume cannabis. The café’s commitment to creating a unique and inclusive experience underscores its status as a pioneering establishment in West Hollywood’s vibrant cannabis landscape.
