xAI Launches Standalone iOS App for Grok Chatbot in US
Artificial intelligence company xAI has released a standalone iOS app for its Grok chatbot in the United States, as initially reported by TechCrunch. The app, currently in beta, offers similar functionalities to the version integrated into X, including real-time information retrieval, question answering, and image generation capabilities.
Initial testing of the standalone iOS app began in December in select countries. However, there have been no announcements regarding the availability of an Android version at this time.
This launch marks a significant expansion in access to Grok, which was initially exclusive to X Premium subscribers. Last month, xAI broadened access to all users, aligning Grok with other free chatbots in the market such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.
In addition to the iOS app, xAI is reportedly developing a dedicated Grok.com website. Currently, the site displays a “coming soon” message, indicating further developments in the pipeline.
The company’s expansion efforts come on the heels of substantial financial backing. xAI secured $6 billion in funding in June and recently completed an additional $6 billion funding round, with contributions from strategic investors including tech giants Nvidia and AMD.
As the AI landscape continues to evolve rapidly, xAI’s latest move with the Grok iOS app represents another step in the company’s efforts to compete in the increasingly crowded chatbot market.
