The US government is warning customers to be wary of certain smoke and carbon monoxide detectors being sold on Amazon. According to a federal watchdog, the combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector models do not detect any type of smoke or gas. This could potentially put consumers at risk if they rely on these devices for safety in their homes.
The affected products include two models from Ei Electronics, one model from X-Sense, and one model from KIDDE Fire Safety (all sold under different brand names). The government has urged people who have purchased these items to stop using them immediately as they are ineffective in detecting fire hazards or dangerous levels of toxic gases like carbon monoxide.
Consumers should contact the manufacturer directly for further information about returning the product or obtaining a refund. If you have already installed any of these units into your home, it is recommended that you replace them with an alternative device that meets all safety standards set by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) before use. Additionally, homeowners should also consider installing additional forms of protection, such as regular maintenance checks on heating systems and other appliances, which can produce hazardous levels of CO2 when malfunctioning properly maintained.
