Two Minors Arrested in Assault on Former New York Governor David Paterson
Two boys, aged 12 and 13, have been arrested in connection with an assault on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa. The incident occurred on Manhattan’s Upper East Side around 8:30 p.m. Friday, leaving both victims with minor facial injuries and Paterson with additional body injuries.
The attack, which reportedly involved at least five individuals, has led to the two minors being charged with gang assault. New York City police are seeking public assistance for more information about the incident.
Paterson, who served as New York’s governor from 2008 to 2010 and was the state’s first Black governor, assumed office following Eliot Spitzer’s resignation. The assault unfolded after an earlier confrontation between Sliwa and the assailants.
According to reports, Sliwa initially encountered the group while walking his dog, warning them he would call the police if they continued climbing a fire escape. Later, when Paterson and Sliwa were walking together, they were confronted and attacked by the group.
Paterson recounted the incident, describing how Sliwa defended against multiple attackers. Sliwa required stitches for a facial cut sustained during the assault.
Due to their age, the identities of the arrested minors have not been released. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and youth crime in New York, prompting community reaction and intensified police investigation efforts.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the assault to come forward.
