Florida is quickly becoming the hub of commercial space launches, and it’s causing a major problem for commercial flights. According to Pete Buttigieg, the sheer number of rockets launched from Florida has caused air traffic to become congested. The situation has gotten so bad that some airlines are being forced to alter their flight paths to avoid potential collisions with rockets.
The increase in rocket launches can be attributed mainly to private companies, such as SpaceX and Blue Origin, who have been developing reusable launch systems over the past few years. These innovations have made space travel much more affordable, allowing many businesses and organizations access to orbit for a fraction of what it used to cost before.
In response to this issue, local authorities are attempting various measures, such as creating designated airspace zones that will help keep air traffic separate from rocket launches; however, there is still much work left ahead if they want any hope of resolving this issue completely. Until then, travelers should expect delays when flying through Florida due to its ever-growing reliance on commercial space launch technology.
