Experts have confirmed that the mysterious rock found in a New Jersey family’s home is, indeed, a meteorite. The avocado-sized object crashed through the roof of their house and landed on the floor below. After being examined by researchers at Rutgers University, it was determined that this rock had come from outer space.
The meteorite is believed to be part of an asteroid belt located between Mars and Jupiter called “the main asteroid belt.” It is estimated to be 4 billion years old and composed primarily of iron-nickel alloy with traces of other elements such as cobalt or phosphorus. This type of meteorite typically has a dark gray exterior due to its exposure to cosmic radiation over millions of years while traveling through space before crashing into Earth’s atmosphere.
This particular specimen was only one out of thousands that enter our planet’s atmosphere each year; however, most are too small or burn up completely before reaching Earth’s surface – making this find especially rare! Experts believe it may provide valuable insight into our solar system’s history since these objects preserve information about their origin for billions upon billions of years after they form in deep space.
