The New York Times recently lost its blue checkmark verification badge on Twitter, and Elon Musk wasn’t happy about it. The Tesla CEO took to the social media platform to express his displeasure with the news organization, calling it “propaganda” and equating its tweets to diarrhea.
Musk’s comments come after a series of tweets from the NYT that was critical of his business practices. In response, he accused them of spreading false information to harm him and his companies’ reputations. He also pointed out that other outlets had not been de-verified for similar behavior – leading many people to speculate whether or not this was a targeted attack against one specific outlet by Twitter itself.
Regardless of who is at fault here, what isn’t up for debate is how influential figures like Musk can use their platforms as megaphones when they feel wronged by major organizations, such as The New York Times – which could have potentially serious consequences if left unchecked or unregulated in any way shape or form. It remains unclear what will happen next but one thing is certain: This won’t be the last time we hear Elon Musk speak out against those he believes are unfairly targeting him or his businesses.
