Elon Musk has reclaimed the title of the world’s wealthiest person, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. The Tesla CEO rose to the top spot on Monday with an estimated net worth of $209 billion, surpassing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who had held the position since 2017.
Musk’s wealth has grown exponentially in 2020 due largely to his electric car company’s stock price soaring more than 700%. This surge in value has made Musk one of the most successful entrepreneurs and investors have ever seen and he is now worth over $100 billion more than a year ago.
The 48-year-old South African-born entrepreneur also owns SpaceX, which recently became the only private space exploration firm to send astronauts into orbit for NASA as part of its Crew Dragon mission earlier this month. He also founded Neuralink, a neurotechnology startup that is developing implantable brain–machine interfaces for human use, among other ventures such as The Boring Company and OpenAI.
In addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits, Elon Musk continues making headlines by engaging with fans online via Twitter where he often shares updates about his various projects or offers commentary on current events happening around him world – all while maintaining control over two publicly traded companies that are valued at hundreds of billions of dollars combined.
