Eddie Murphy is reportedly in talks to star as the beloved Inspector Clouseau in a reboot of The Pink Panther. Jeff Fowler, director of Sonic the Hedgehog, has been tapped to direct this new version of the classic comedy franchise.
The original film series starred Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau and ran from 1963 until 1983 with six films total. It was followed by two sequels starring Steve Martin and one remake starring Alan Arkin that were all met with mixed reviews at best.
If Eddie Murphy takes on this role it would be his first live-action feature since Tower Heist (2011). He has recently voiced characters for DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek” films and played Professor Sherman Klump/Buddy Love in 1996’s “The Nutty Professor,” which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
It will be interesting to see how fans react if Eddie does indeed take on this iconic character made famous by Peter Sellers decades ago; however, we can expect great things from Jeff Fowler who directed 2020’s hit movie Sonic The Hedgehog, which grossed over $300 million worldwide!.
