Ed Sheeran recently made headlines when he played guitar in a courtroom during the copyright trial of his hit song “Let’s Get It On”. The lawsuit was brought by two musicians, Ed Townsend, and Marvin Gaye, who claimed that Sheeran copied their 1973 classic.
Sheeran took to the stand and began playing an acoustic version of his song on a guitar for the jury. He explained how he wrote it from scratch with no reference to any other songs. He also pointed out some key differences between both tracks such as tempo, chord progressions, and melody lines.
The judge allowed him to play for 15 minutes before calling time so that all parties could hear what had been said in court up until then. His performance certainly impressed many people present in court including members of the jury who were seen nodding along while listening intently throughout his performance.
In addition to this impressive display, Ed Sheeran also presented evidence showing how he created “Let’s Get It On” without referencing or copying anyone else’s work, which ultimately led to him being cleared of any wrongdoing at the end of the proceedings. This case has shown us once again why Ed is one of today’s most talented artists!
