Pop singer Charlie Puth is facing backlash from fans of Selena Gomez over remarks he made about his song, ‘Attention’. The track was released two years after the pair were romantically linked and many are now accusing him of writing it about her.
Puth has denied the claims but this hasn’t stopped fans from expressing their outrage on social media. Some have accused him of exploiting a past relationship for commercial gain while others are questioning why he would write such a song if there wasn’t any truth to it in the first place.
The controversy has been further fuelled by comments Puth made during an interview with Billboard magazine where he suggested that ‘Attention’ was inspired by someone who had hurt him in the past, without mentioning Gomez’s name specifically. He also said that “It’s not like I’m sitting here talking trash”.
Despite all this, some people believe we should give Puth more credit as an artist and respect his right to express himself through music without having to answer questions or defend himself against accusations every time one of his songs becomes popular with listeners. After all, no matter what happened between them in their private life shouldn’t take away from how talented both artists are when it comes to creating great music for us all to enjoy!
