Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed in a Netflix docuseries that O.J. Simpson was almost cast as the robotic killer in James Cameron’s “The Terminator.” According to Schwarzenegger, producers felt that Simpson could not be sold as a killing machine and ultimately decided against casting him for the role.
Schwarzenegger went on to say that he had suggested other actors, such as Sylvester Stallone and Harrison Ford, but they were also rejected by producers due to their lack of experience with science fiction films at the time. Ultimately, it was his performance that won him the part of The Terminator despite initial doubts from studio executives about his ability to portray an emotionless cyborg assassin convincingly enough for audiences worldwide.
Despite this revelation, it is clear why Simpson would have been considered for one of cinema’s most iconic roles; he had already established himself as an action star through movies like “Capricorn One” and “The Towering Inferno” before being considered for The Terminator role – something no other actor who auditioned possessed at that time!
