American Airlines Tests New Boarding Technology at Three U.S. Airports
American Airlines has launched a pilot program for new boarding technology at three U.S. airports, aiming to streamline the boarding process and ensure passengers board in their assigned order. The trial is currently underway at Albuquerque International Sunport, Tucson International, and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports.
The innovative system emits an audible alert if a passenger attempts to board before their designated group is called. This technology is designed to enhance the boarding process by safeguarding priority boarding benefits and providing gate agents with improved oversight of boarding progress.
Under the new protocol, gate agents are instructed to politely inform passengers if they attempt to board prematurely, asking them to wait until their boarding group is called. The system allows for flexibility, as agents can override the alert for exceptions, such as companions of higher-status travelers.
American Airlines reports satisfaction with the trial results thus far. The airline is closely monitoring the technology’s performance and passenger feedback during this pilot phase. If successful, the system could potentially be implemented at more airports across the carrier’s network, further improving the boarding experience for travelers.
