Italian Fashion Icon Alberta Ferretti Steps Down as Creative Director
Renowned Italian designer Alberta Ferretti has announced her resignation as creative director of her eponymous brand after more than four decades at the helm. The news came via an email from Ferretti herself, following her final fashion show on September 17th during Milan Fashion Week.
In her statement, Ferretti described the decision as “difficult and thoughtful,” but assured that the brand will continue to bear her name. She also promised to announce her successor shortly. Aeffe, the fashion group that owns Alberta Ferretti, confirmed that she will remain in her role as vice president of the company.
Ferretti’s last show as creative director, held in a former cloister now serving as a science museum, showcased summery creations that emphasized the brand’s artisanal heritage. Set against the backdrop of an elegant dome, the collection highlighted the practicality of summer clothes. Interestingly, Ferretti did not indicate her impending departure during the event.
The designer’s journey in fashion began in her family’s dressmaking shop. As a teenager, she opened her boutique, eventually launching the Alberta Ferretti brand in 1981. Throughout her career, Ferretti maintained her signature gentle feminine silhouettes, transforming a small family business into a company that now employs 1,500 people.
As the fashion world awaits news of Ferretti’s successor, her departure marks the end of an era for the iconic Italian brand. Her legacy as a pioneer in feminine design and her contribution to Italian fashion will undoubtedly continue to influence the industry for years to come.
