Krisp Unveils AI Tool to Convert Accents to American English in Real Time
Krisp, the company behind the popular noise cancellation app, has launched a new AI-powered tool designed to convert various accents to American English in real time. The innovative feature has been integrated into Krisp’s existing desktop application, functioning as a virtual microphone for major video conferencing platforms including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Webex.
The AI Accent Conversion tool boasts a remarkably low latency of 200 milliseconds, allowing for seamless accent transformation while preserving the speaker’s natural voice. Early demonstrations have shown the tool’s effectiveness in producing American-sounding speech, albeit with a slight robotic undertone.
Currently, the tool supports over 17 Indian dialects, with plans to expand its capabilities to include other English accents, such as Filipino. Krisp has initially deployed the technology to call center agencies before a wider release.
Arto Minasyan, Krisp’s co-founder, emphasized the tool’s potential to enhance communication efficiency in fast-paced business environments. “Our AI Accent Conversion tool can significantly improve understanding and productivity during time-sensitive meetings,” Minasyan stated.
The accent conversion feature is currently in its beta phase. Free users can access the tool for up to 60 minutes daily, while a business plan priced at $15 per month offers unlimited usage.
As AI-powered voice modification tools gain traction, other companies like Teleperformance SE are also exploring similar technologies. However, the emergence of such tools has raised concerns regarding AI’s handling of race and ethnicity, as well as potential risks associated with AI voice generation.
As the technology continues to evolve, industry experts and users alike will be closely monitoring its impact on global communication and cultural dynamics in professional settings.
