Apple’s iOS 18.4 Update Brings Robot Vacuum Support to Home App
Apple’s latest iOS 18.4 update has introduced support for robot vacuums in the Apple Home app, leveraging the Matter protocol. This integration allows users to control their compatible smart vacuum cleaners directly through the Home app and incorporate them into automated routines and scenes.
Leading robot vacuum manufacturers, including iRobot, Roborock, and Ecovacs, are rolling out firmware updates to ensure their devices are compatible with Apple Home.
Roborock Enhances Matter Protocol Implementation
Roborock is at the forefront of this integration, enhancing Matter protocol implementation across several of its premium models. Supported devices include the S8 MaxV Ultra, Saros Z70, Saros 10, Saros 10R, Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge, and Qrevo Master. The company has announced that firmware updates will be available between April 1st and April 10th.
These updates not only improve compatibility with Apple Home but also enhance connectivity with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Roborock has confirmed that additional models, such as the S8 Max Ultra and Qrevo Slim, will receive Matter support in future updates.
iRobot Joins the Matter Ecosystem
iRobot has also embraced the Matter protocol, with its Roomba Combo 10 Max and Auto Wash Dock now fully compliant. Users can control cleaning schedules and initiate room-specific cleanings through the Apple Home app or by using Siri voice commands.
Ecovacs Rolls Out Matter 1.4 Firmware
Ecovacs is releasing Matter 1.4 firmware updates for several of its models, including the Deebot X2, X2 Combo, T50, T50 Max, and X8. The company has stated that these updates will be rolled out in phases to ensure a smooth transition.
Apple Home and Matter Protocol Integration
Apple first announced support for robot vacuums via Matter at WWDC 2024. The integration allows for basic features such as power control, mode switching, and room-specific cleaning. However, more advanced features like mapping and zone configuration remain exclusive to the manufacturers’ dedicated apps.
This update marks a significant step forward in smart home integration, allowing users to control their robot vacuums alongside other smart devices in a unified ecosystem.
