Nvidia Unveils Evolution of Graphics Card Design, Confirms Leaked Prototype
Nvidia, the leading graphics processing unit (GPU) manufacturer, has released a video showcasing the evolution of its Founders Edition graphics card designs. The video highlights the development of the new RTX 5090 and confirms the existence of a previously leaked prototype with a massive four-slot design.
The prototype, known as “Titan ADA,” featured a triple-fan cooling system and was previously tested by tech review channel Gamers Nexus. Andrew Bell, Nvidia’s Executive Vice President of system products, addressed the growing trend of increasing graphics card sizes in the video.
Bell acknowledged the challenges posed by the large prototype, which occupied four slots and proved difficult to accommodate in many computer chassis. In response to these issues, Nvidia set out to create a more compact design for their next-generation cards.
The triple-fan cooling system of the prototype played a significant role in influencing the development of Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture. As a result, the RTX 5090 Founders Edition card now boasts a modular four-part design, including a separate I/O board to enhance airflow and cooling efficiency.
One of the most notable improvements in the RTX 5090 is its more compact form factor. Unlike its predecessor, the RTX 4090, which required three slots, the new card fits into just two slots on the motherboard. Nvidia attributes these advancements to the changes in design and architecture implemented based on lessons learned from the prototype.
This evolution in graphics card design demonstrates Nvidia’s commitment to balancing performance with practicality, addressing concerns about the increasing size of high-end GPUs while maintaining their powerful capabilities.
