Trump Appoints Tech Veteran Sriram Krishnan as Senior AI Policy Advisor
Former President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Sriram Krishnan as senior policy advisor for artificial intelligence (AI) at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, a seasoned entrepreneur and venture capitalist, will play a crucial role in shaping and coordinating AI policy across various government agencies.
In his new position, Krishnan will work closely with David Sacks, Trump’s designated crypto and AI ‘czar,’ to advance the administration’s technology agenda. The appointment comes as part of a series of announcements regarding Trump’s tech team.
Krishnan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having led product teams at major tech companies including Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook, and Snap. He gained additional recognition through “The Aarthi and Sriram Show,” a podcast he co-hosts with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
As senior policy advisor for AI, Krishnan will contribute to shaping AI policy and collaborate with the president’s council of advisors on science and technology. He joins a tech team that includes Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Before his White House appointment, Krishnan served as a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), where he led the firm’s first non-U.S. office in London. He left a16z in late November 2023 to take on his new role in the administration.
Krishnan has been vocal about AI trends, advocating for new mechanisms for websites to interact with AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. He has also emphasized the importance of technological solutions over legal actions in addressing challenges posed by AI to internet platforms.
The appointment of Krishnan is expected to bolster American leadership in AI, as he collaborates with other tech leaders in the administration to drive innovation and policy development in this rapidly evolving field.
