xAI Unveils Upgraded Grok 2 Chatbot Amid Legal Battle with OpenAI
In a surprising move, xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, has announced the release of an enhanced version of its Grok 2 chatbot model on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. This development comes as the company continues to navigate an ongoing lawsuit with OpenAI.
The improved Grok model boasts significant upgrades, including a threefold increase in speed and enhanced accuracy, instruction-following capabilities, and multilingual support. The chatbot is now accessible to all X users, with varying usage limits based on subscription tiers.
Free users can engage with Grok by asking up to 10 questions every two hours, while X’s Premium and Premium+ subscribers enjoy more generous usage allowances. In an effort to boost user engagement, xAI has introduced a “Grok button” on X, designed to provide users with relevant context and deeper insights into real-time events and trending discussions.
On the enterprise front, xAI has announced updates to its API, introducing new Grok models with improved efficiency and multilingual performance. These enhancements have led to a reduction in pricing, with input token costs dropping from $5 to $2 per million, and output token costs decreasing from $15 to $10 per million.
Looking ahead, xAI has revealed plans to integrate its recently launched image generation model, Aurora, into the API. Aurora, an unfiltered image AI, is currently available within the Grok chatbot experience on X.
As xAI continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the tech industry watches closely to see how these developments will impact the ongoing legal dispute with OpenAI and shape the future of artificial intelligence.
