ElevenLabs, a leading AI voice technology company, has introduced GenFM, a groundbreaking feature that enables users to create multispeaker podcasts using artificial intelligence. This innovation comes as the latest development in the rapidly evolving field of AI-generated content, following closely on the heels of Google’s NotebookLM.
GenFM is now available on the ElevenLabs Reader iOS app, supporting an impressive array of 32 languages, including English, Hindi, and Portuguese. Users can initiate the podcast creation process by uploading YouTube videos, text, or documents. The system then automatically selects two voices from over a dozen options to narrate the content.
What sets GenFM apart is its incorporation of human-like elements such as “ums” and thoughtful pauses, aiming to strike a balance between natural conversation and content utility. Jack McDermott, a spokesperson for ElevenLabs, emphasized the company’s goal of achieving a natural conversation flow while making audio narratives accessible across various voices and languages.
Looking ahead, ElevenLabs plans to introduce more customization options and multiple source integration. The company is also exploring the creation of fully generative AI podcasts, signaling a potential shift in content creation paradigms.
This development comes in the wake of Google’s launch of AI-generated conversations in September, with the tech giant recently adding customization features to its NotebookLM platform.
ElevenLabs’ innovation is part of a larger expansion strategy. The company has invested $11 million in the Polish startup ecosystem and opened an R&D center in Warsaw. Additionally, ElevenLabs is making inroads into the Indian market with a new business head and team. The company has also launched conversation AI agents for its customers, further solidifying its position in the AI voice technology sector.
As AI continues to reshape the landscape of content creation, ElevenLabs’ GenFM represents a significant step forward in making podcast production more accessible and diverse.
