AMD Confirms RDNA 4 GPU Launch for Early 2025, Shifts Focus to AI
In a recent earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su announced the company’s plans to launch its next-generation RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025. This marks the first public confirmation of AMD’s upcoming graphics architecture, which promises significant improvements in gaming performance and ray tracing capabilities.
The RDNA 4 GPUs are set to introduce new AI features, potentially aligning with industry rumors and leaks. Speculation from reliable sources suggests that AMD may unveil these new graphics cards at CES 2025, alongside potential announcements for Strix Halo and Fire Range gaming notebook components.
Despite the anticipation surrounding RDNA 4, AMD expressed caution regarding its gaming revenue outlook. The company expects a decline in this sector, partly due to aging PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. Gaming currently represents only two percent of AMD’s overall revenue.
In a strategic shift, AMD is increasingly focusing on its data center business, which now accounts for over half of the company’s revenue. Lisa Su emphasized AMD’s commitment to becoming an end-to-end AI leader, signaling a potential move away from competing directly with Nvidia in the high-end consumer GPU market.
This pivot towards AI development suggests that while RDNA 4 will offer improved gaming performance, AMD may not prioritize challenging Nvidia’s top-tier offerings in the consumer space. As the tech landscape evolves, AMD appears poised to capitalize on the growing demand for AI solutions while maintaining a presence in the gaming GPU market.
