Pope Francis has announced that he will be undergoing intestinal surgery and will be hospitalized for several days. The Vatican released a statement on Monday, saying the Pope is in good health but requires the procedure to address an issue with his intestines.
The operation is scheduled to take place at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where Pope John Paul II was treated during his papacy. During this time, Cardinal Pietro Parolin has been appointed as regent of the Holy See and will lead all official activities until Pope Francis returns from hospitalization.
The Catholic Church wishes him a speedy recovery and prayers are being offered around the world for His Holiness’ well-being. In addition to receiving medical care while in the hospital, it is expected that he may also receive visits from family members or close friends who wish him a full recovery soonest possible after surgery. We hope that upon release from hospitalization, he shall return stronger than ever before!
