At least nine people are dead and many more injured after a tragic crash at a soccer stadium in El Salvador. The incident took place during the quarterfinal match of the Salvadoran league on Saturday when fans pushed through one of the access gates to gain entry into the stadium.
The tragedy occurred due to overcrowding as too many spectators attempted to enter through one gate, resulting in an uncontrollable surge that caused some attendees to be crushed against each other or walls and fences surrounding them. The police had no time nor mean available for crowd control as they were completely overwhelmed by this unexpected influx of people trying desperately to get inside before kickoff time.
Emergency services have been working tirelessly since then attending those affected by this terrible event while authorities investigate what happened intending to prevent similar tragedies from occurring again in future sporting events across El Salvador and beyond. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this heartbreaking accident, their families, and friends who will forever remember them with love and admiration for their passion for football despite such an unfortunate ending.
