Brittney Griner, the star center of the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team, is back on the court after spending time in a Russian jail. Last week Griner was arrested and detained for several days while visiting Russia with her professional basketball team. The incident occurred when she attempted to enter a nightclub without proper identification and was taken into custody by local authorities.
Griner has since been released from jail and returned to playing with her teammates on the court. She made an immediate impact during last night’s game against Connecticut Sun scoring 18 points in only 24 minutes of playtime, which helped lead her team to victory over their opponents 95-91. This marks an impressive comeback for Griner who had not played professionally since being detained overseas just one week ago.
The Phoenix Mercury organization expressed relief that Brittney has safely returned home following this unfortunate event abroad but also recognized how well she performed despite all that happened before the game day as evidenced by last night’s win over Connecticut Sun where Brittney scored more than half of Phoenix’s total points throughout the match up!
