Kool & the Gang: Reviving Fun Through Music, Their Latest Album, and a Legacy of Sampling

Kool & the Gang, one of the most iconic and influential disco acts in music history, are back with a new album titled “Fun.” The band is best known for their classic hits like “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie” which have been sampled countless times by some of today’s biggest hip-hop stars.

The group’s founder George Brown recently spoke to Insider about why they chose to make an album called “Fun” after more than 50 years together as a band. He said it was time to bring some joy into people’s lives through music again: “We wanted to make something fun for everyone,” he said.

Brown also discussed how Kool & the Gang has become one of the most sampled R&B acts in history due largely in part because their songs were so catchy and memorable when they first came out decades ago: “People recognize our sound right away,” he explained, adding that it still resonates with listeners today just as much as it did back then.

He concluded by saying that while there may be plenty of negativity surrounding modern-day music, Kool & The Gang will always strive towards making sure their fans can enjoy themselves when listening to their tunes: “Our goal is always going to be creating positive vibes.”
