A Long Island nurse has been arrested after allegedly slamming a newborn baby facedown into a bassinet. The incident occurred at the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, New York.
The police were alerted to the situation by hospital staff who witnessed the nurse’s actions and reported it immediately.
After an investigation was conducted, it was determined that the infant suffered no physical harm as a result of this action; however, due to its severity, legal action had to be taken against her for endangering an innocent life.
The accused nurse is currently being held on $50 thousand bail and faces charges of child endangerment and assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon or dangerous instrumentality. If convicted, she could face up to seven years in prison for her crimes against this helpless newborn baby.
This case serves as a reminder that all healthcare professionals must always act responsibly when caring for vulnerable patients, such as infants, so they can ensure their safety at all times. It is also important that any suspicious behavior be reported immediately so appropriate measures can be taken before further damage occurs.
