Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson, two high schoolers from the United States, recently presented their findings on the Pythagorean theorem to the American Mathematical Society. The presentation stunned mathematicians as they had previously thought it was impossible to prove this ancient mathematical theory.
The students have been working together for over a year to find proof of what is known as one of mathematics’ oldest unsolved problems. They used modern technology, such as computer programming and statistical analysis, to make their discovery possible. Their research has provided new insight into how we understand geometry today and could lead us toward further discoveries about our universe’s structure.
Their work has already received recognition from many leading mathematicians around the world who are eager for more information about these groundbreaking findings by Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson. It will be interesting to see what other insights can come out of this amazing accomplishment by two high schoolers!
