Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary recently blasted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for killing jobs and making the city “uninvestable” during a Friday interview. He stated that “She’s great at one thing, she kills jobs by the thousands.” His comments were in response to her proposed 70% marginal tax rate on income over $10 million, which he believes would be detrimental to job growth and investment opportunities in New York City.
O’Leary went on to explain that high taxes are not conducive to job creation or business investments because it reduces capital available for entrepreneurs who wish to start businesses or expand existing ones; therefore reducing employment opportunities within the city limits of New York City as well as other cities across America if similar policies were implemented nationwide.
He concluded his statement with an appeal towards Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “Please don’t kill our future generations by taking away their opportunity,” he said, adding that “taxation is not going solve this problem” when referring to climate change initiatives such as The Green Deal proposed by Cortez earlier this year. It remains unclear whether or not Congress will pass any legislation regarding taxation reform but what is certain is that Kevin O’Leary has made it clear where he stands on the issue of tax reform and its effect on job growth throughout America.
